West Lane Protest Brings Breakthrough – But Residents Learn Piling Is Only 40% Complete

West Lane Piling Protest Leads to Talks Between Residents and Redrow.

Residents protesting outside the Redrow development at West Lane yesterday say they have achieved a positive first step after representatives from Redrow came out to meet them and answer questions face to face.

The peaceful protest attracted a good turnout, with residents gathering outside the site carrying placards to voice their concerns over the ongoing driven piling works, which many say have caused months of disruption through constant noise and vibrations.

In a significant development, the site manager and other Redrow representatives left the construction site to speak directly with residents. Around an hour was spent discussing concerns, with residents asking a wide range of questions about the piling works, the impact on neighbouring homes and the future construction programme. The entire discussion was recorded, and Redrow representatives responded to each question.

One of the key revelations to emerge during the meeting was that the piling programme is understood to be only around 40% complete. Residents say this came as a surprise, as many believed the work was much closer to being finished based on earlier information.

While concerns remain, residents welcomed the opportunity to have an open discussion with Redrow representatives and to have their questions answered directly.

There has also been a further development this morning.

Maria Bennett, Chair of Formby Parish Council, has confirmed she has now been informed that the piling will continue only long enough to complete the house currently being worked on before the contractor moves across the road to finish piling on a property where work had previously started.

After that, the piling works are expected to pause while meetings take place between Redrow, senior management and Sefton Council to review the concerns raised and the technical information that has been submitted.

Despite that update, residents woke to the sound of piling starting again at 8am this morning, as work continues on the current phase before the anticipated pause.

Many residents say they remain hopeful that yesterday’s protest has opened the door to meaningful dialogue for the first time and that the planned review will lead to a solution that reduces the impact on the surrounding community.
