After 58 Wonderful Years, Formby Rotary Club hands over Santas Christmas Tradition to Formby Scouts

It is the end of an era for one of Formby’s most treasured Christmas traditions, but thankfully Santa’s visits will continue!

For generations of Formby families, the excitement of seeing Santa travelling through the village on his beautifully decorated Carol Wagon has been a magical part of Christmas.

From children eagerly waiting at their windows to families gathering outside to wave, these special visits have created countless happy memories over the years.

Now, Formby Rotary Club has shared an important announcement about the future of this much loved tradition.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM FORMBY ROTARY CLUB…

Formby Rotary Club has kindly sent the following statement to Formby Bubble to share with our community:

“For the past 58 years, Formby Rotary Club have been bringing Santa Claus around the streets of Formby at Christmas time, to the delight of children, their families and neighbours, collecting for local charities and good causes.”

“It is with great sadness that we announce the Rotary Club has to retire from the operation, due to lack of members and old age.”

“However, the Club is pleased that the tradition of bringing Santa and festive cheer will continue with the Formby Area Scouts, who have long been supporters and collectors with the tours of Santa and his Carol Wagon.”

“Some members of Formby Rotary Club will be helping with the transition and they hope that Formby folk will continue to volunteer and support the new venture of Formby Scouts.”

“Formby Rotary Club would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and generosity over all the years.”

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with Formby Rotary Club, past and present, for the extraordinary contribution they have made to our community.

Behind every magical visit were dedicated volunteers giving up their evenings, often in freezing December weather, simply to bring happiness to others.

The joy you have brought to thousands of children and the memories you have created for generations of families are a wonderful legacy.

We are also delighted that Formby Area Scouts will be carrying this special tradition forward and wish them every success.
