After years of standing empty, one of Formby Village’s most recognisable buildings has finally been brought back to life. The site, formerly home to Riva Bar, has undergone a remarkable transformation — and today, Monday 11th November at 12 noon, the doors to SageHouse officially open for the very first time.
The property, which had stood vacant for many years, required extensive renovation to restore it to its former glory. The owner, Janet, who is both the creative force and driving energy behind the project, has worked tirelessly alongside local Formby traders to bring her vision to life. Every detail — from the hand-finished interiors to the fresh produce and furnishings — has been chosen with care to create something the whole community can be proud of.
“My inspiration for SageHouse was to engage the community as a whole — to create something beautiful that everyone in Formby can enjoy.”
— Janet, Founder of SageHouse
Janet’s vision was to build more than just a venue — she wanted to create a place that feels like the heart of the village. A welcoming space where people can meet for coffee, celebrate with friends, or simply unwind in elegant surroundings.
Although today marks a soft opening, allowing the team to settle in and receive training, it already feels like the beginning of something special for Formby. The excitement has been building for months, and residents can now finally step inside and see the incredible results for themselves.
By Day: A Taste of France in the Heart of Formby
SageHouse will operate as a chic French Patisserie and Bakery, complete with a Gelato counter and Juice Bar. Coffee lovers will be delighted to know that every cup is crafted on a La Marzocco machine, using beans from Neighbourhood Coffee, a highly regarded Merseyside roaster. The menu celebrates freshness, flavour and creativity — with pastries, breads, and bakes all made using quality, locally sourced ingredients.
By Night: Elegant Lounge and Bar
As the sun goes down, the venue will transform into a stylish licensed lounge bar, offering small plates, fine wines, and signature cocktails. The interior features leather seating, soft ambient lighting, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere — the perfect setting for a night out in the village.
Adding to the excitement, SageHouse will soon welcome a cocktail mixologist from Gordon Ramsay’s ‘Lucky Cat’ restaurant in Mayfair, London, bringing world-class expertise and flair to Formby’s newest hotspot.
SageHouse also includes a beautifully designed private function space upstairs — ideal for birthdays, family gatherings, business meetings, and even small funeral receptions. With its elegant décor and versatile layout, it’s set to become one of Formby’s most desirable private hire venues.
For the next two weeks, SageHouse will be open for coffee and food only, before officially launching at full capacity later this month.
After years of anticipation, this long-awaited opening marks not just the revival of a cherished building, but the beginning of a new chapter for Formby Village. With its warm welcome, stylish surroundings, and commitment to quality, SageHouse is ready to take its place at the very heart of our community.
