⚠️ Latest Service Updates

🟦 Services on the Southport Line are now running between Southport and Liverpool Central but some services may still be delayed, altered or cancelled while the timetable is returned to normal

ORIGINAL:

A serious emergency incident is ongoing in Formby this morning after a person was reportedly hit by a train close to Fisherman’s Path near Freshfield Railway Station.

Merseyrail has confirmed that services on the Southport line are severely disrupted following reports of a person being struck by a train at Freshfield.

There is a significant emergency services presence in the area, with the incident understood to have happened at around 10.40am.

Fisherman’s Path is sadly a location where a number of people have lost their lives in incidents on the railway over the years, making news of another serious incident in this area particularly upsetting for the Formby community.

Merseyrail has now suspended services between Southport and Hall Road, with disruption currently expected to continue until around 1pm.

Merseyrail said: “Services on the Southport line are disrupted, due to reports of a person being hit by a train at Freshfield. Services are suspended between Southport and Hall Road.”

Rail replacement buses have been requested to operate between Hall Road and Southport in both directions, although they are not yet in operation.

Passengers can currently use Northern services between Southport and Liverpool via Wigan, while tickets are also being accepted on Arriva bus services and the Stagecoach X2 at no additional cost.

While the disruption will affect many passengers today, at the heart of this is a deeply distressing incident involving a person and their loved ones.

Our thoughts are first and foremost with the person who has been hit and their family and friends. Our thoughts are also very much with the train driver, who has been directly involved in what will undoubtedly have been an extremely distressing and traumatic incident, as well as the passengers, emergency services and everyone affected.

We will provide further updates when confirmed information becomes available.
