Parking chaos causes serious safety concerns across Formby and Freshfield - Video Footage

Dangerous and inconsiderate parking has once again led to widespread disruption across Formby and Freshfield, with roads on the Shoreside of Formby brought to a standstill.

Both National Trust car parks were reported full and closed by around 9:30am this morning, leaving thousands of visitors arriving on Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May, with nowhere to park. As a result, vehicles were left on roads, verges and junctions, causing severe congestion throughout the area.
Merseyside Police attended and implemented traffic measures in an effort to manage the situation. Bushbys Lane was on a one way system introduced by police and traffic diverted along Ward Avenue and Kirklake Road. Despite these efforts, traffic continued to build, with many drivers continuing to park wherever space could be found.
The situation became even more concerning when emergency services were called to an incident on the beach. (Read story here). Due to the volume of traffic and obstructive parking, police and ambulance crews experienced difficulty accessing the scene.

Residents and visitors alike have described the situation as chaotic and unsafe, raising ongoing concerns about public safety and access for emergency services.
There are now growing calls for both the parish council and Sefton Council to take urgent action to address the recurring issues, particularly during peak periods and bank holidays.

This chaos is really dangerous. Our carers were unable to get to us as they were trapped in log jam of traffic. They even had to park their car and walk to see one of their clients! These wonderful people shouldn't have to be inconvenienced this way just to do their job. Luckily we were able to manage but many people would not be so lucky. What is it going to be like in the summer?
