A major emergency response was launched at Formby beach this afternoon after a teenage girl got into difficulty in the water.
Emergency services were called to the Albert Road area at around 3.30pm on Monday May 25 following concerns for the safety of a 15 year old girl. Merseyside Police, the Coastguard and North West Ambulance Service all attended the scene, with both an air ambulance and a Coastguard helicopter deployed.

The girl was rescued and treated at the scene before being airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time, but police have confirmed that her family have been informed.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said they were called following reports of a concern for the safety of the girl and that enquiries remain ongoing.
The incident has prompted a significant emergency response, with multiple police vehicles, ambulance crews and rescue teams working at the scene.
Meanwhile, the situation has been made more difficult by large numbers of people continuing to travel to Formby beach. All surrounding roads are currently heavily congested, with severe gridlock reported across the area.
Police have introduced a temporary one way system in an effort to ease the pressure, but delays remain significant. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area where possible to allow emergency services clear access.
