We understand the growing frustration among residents and road users as the closure of Liverpool Road, between Ravenmeols Lane and Birkey Lane, has now been extended until Thursday, 4th July.
The road has been closed since 23rd May to allow United Utilities to carry out essential sewer repair works. These works were originally scheduled to be completed by 12th June, but due to the complexity of the repairs, the timescale has unfortunately been extended.
This route is a key access point in and out of Formby, and the prolonged closure has had a major impact on traffic flow, with delays and congestion affecting not only residents but also businesses, school runs, public transport, and emergency services.
While we appreciate that these repairs are crucial to ensure the long-term reliability of our local infrastructure and help prevent future flooding or sewer issues, the ongoing disruption has understandably caused concern across the community.
United Utilities have assured us that their teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the repairs. In the meantime, motorists are being urged to continue following the signed diversions and to plan extra time for their journeys — especially during peak hours.

We’d like to thank everyone for their continued patience, understanding, and cooperation during this extended period of disruption. We know it hasn’t been easy, and we’ll continue to liaise with authorities to provide the most up-to-date information as soon as it becomes available.
