Formby Beach saw two emergency callouts on Sunday 17th August, which explained the police sirens heard racing down towards the coast throughout the day.
The first incident happened at 11:07am, when a horse rider fell from their horse on the sand. Southport Lifeboat’s quad bikes were tasked to assist, but as they made their way to the scene, paramedics arrived and began treating the casualty. The lifeboat team were then stood down.
Later in the afternoon, at 3:14pm, Southport Lifeboat quads and the lifeboat were called to search for a missing child, last seen near the water. Crews began mustering at the station ready to launch, but thankfully the child was quickly found safe and well, and the team were stood down once again.
Although both incidents ended without the lifeboat being needed, these callouts are a reminder of just how quickly emergencies can happen on our coastline.
We want to give huge thanks to the incredible Southport Lifeboat volunteers, who are always ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Their commitment, courage and care for our community is outstanding, and we are lucky to have them keeping our beaches safe. 👏❤️
