Major Emergency Response at Formby Beach After Man Rescued From the Sea

Emergency services rushed to Formby Beach this afternoon following reports of a man in difficulty in the sea.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with police, ambulance crews, lifeguards and Southport Offshore Rescue all called to the beach.

The call was received at approximately 3.06pm today, Wednesday 26 August, following reports that a man had been seen in the water and was feared to have drowned.

Thankfully, lifeguards on duty were able to reach the man and rescue him from the water before the situation became a tragedy.

Police were also quickly on the scene and Southport Offshore Rescue responded to the emergency. However, when the rescue team arrived, the man was safely out of the water and they were subsequently stood down.

A number of emergency vehicles were seen heading towards the Formby Beach area as the incident unfolded, causing understandable concern among people in the area.

Despite the extremely worrying initial reports, the man was confirmed to be safe following the rescue.

The incident is another reminder of just how quickly a situation in the sea can become dangerous and of the vital role played by Formby’s lifeguards and emergency services.

Huge credit must go to the lifeguards whose swift response brought the man safely from the water, as well as all of the emergency services who responded so quickly this afternoon.
