MP praises Formby campaigners in battle to save village trees
Two horse chestnut trees in Formby village have been saved from the axe after a last-minute reprieve.
The town's MP Bill Esterson thanked Formby Parish Council and Sefton Council for coming to an agreement that will lead to the trees on Chapel Lane being pruned rather than removed.
Mr Esterson said: "I am pleased that the two councils have been able to work out a compromise and save the trees. Well done to all who have campaigned to save the trees and to the parish council for putting the funds forward to do the necessary works." "I encouraged Sefton Council to work with the parish council to come to an agreement that would save the trees if at all possible and hope that they will continue to work together in future years once the parish council has carried out the work needed now." "The work needs to be done as soon as possible to make sure the trees are saved and that the public are safe from the possible danger falling branches." "I am pleased that Sefton Council has accepted the parish council arborolist's view that the trees can be made safe."
