Formby Rotary recently held a presentation evening for their RYLA candidate, George Newton. George came to the Club to give a presentation on his experiences with RYLA. The Club had sponsored George to take part in this, the Rotary Young Leadership Award. The award aims to build confidence, communication, team building and leadership skills. George was chosen to attend a five day residential course at Arthog Activity Centre in Wales, after being interviewed with a number of other candidates from Formby High School.
The course is a mix of Duke Of Edinburgh award, outward bound and Krypton factor and aims to take candidate out of their comfort zone completely! It was evident from George's excellent presentation that he had thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained a tremendous amount not to mention the new friendships forged over the five days of challenges!
George joined the Rotary Club with his parents and Head of Sixth Form for a meal before giving his talk. The Club would like to thank George's parents, Mark O'Shaunessey, Head of Sixth Form and Formby High School for their support of George's efforts. Photo shows George receiving his award from Club President George Rodda.
