We now have more information following the major emergency services response on Stephenson Way, near Home Bargains, Formby, on Thursday evening (17th September).
It has been confirmed that a man was seriously injured after being crushed by a container. Incredibly, before emergency crews arrived, he managed to apply his own tourniquet after severing an artery in his leg, a quick-thinking action which doctors later confirmed had saved his own life.
The North West Ambulance Service were called at 5:59pm and attended with an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, a duty officer, and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Team. The man was taken to hospital where, after hours of surgery and treatment, he is now in recovery.
His family have asked us to share their gratitude anonymously. They said:
“We were told afterwards that he had saved his own life. After long hours in hospital, he is now recovering. Thank you so much to everyone for your awareness and kind well wishes.”
We send our very best wishes to him and his family for a smooth recovery, and we thank our emergency services for their swift response.
