Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club
There were good results for Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 11 Black, FJSC Under 9 White and FJSC Under 6’s at the weekend. Unfortunately it was disappointing time for five Representative teams who were without a match on a sunny weekend. Inter Club again went well on Saturday as more new members joined.
FJSC REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES
FJSC Under 11 Black returned to league action with a home game against Southport Hesketh on Sunday. FJSC made a confident start, retaining possession well and looking to create chances at every opportunity. After a period of sustained pressure and following some near misses, FJSC got a deserved break through when Thomas Donnelly was quickest to react in the box and stabbed the ball home despite the best efforts of the Southport goalkeeper. The Blacks continued to play well and looked defensively strong with Sam Uttley, Evan Hughes and Aaron Pickard marshalling the backline and preventing any counter attacks. FJSC extended their lead with a second goal just before half time with an excellent finish by Henry Renton who shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner following a clever run across the Southport defence.
The second half saw FJSC continue to play good football and Samuel Lewis added a deserved third goal as he ran onto a through pass from midfield, rounded the keeper and finished well into the far corner. Other chances came and went with Ollie Dean coming the closest to adding a fourth goal when he hit the crossbar with a fierce shot, following a run down the right wing. No further goals were scored. It was another excellent team performance. Man of the match this week went to Aaron Pickard for his strong defensive display, and positive approach as he looked to start attacks with his passing.
Next Sunday FJSC Under 11 Black play Hesketh Colts Red in the cup semi-final.
FJSC Under 12’s Saturday team played TMS in the last fixture in the Hightown League based cup competition. TMS scored after three minutes from a corner. The Under 12’s fought back and equalised in the second half with a Luca Massey goal. It was very good match.
FJSC Under 9 White continued their impressive run of form in the match played away at Burscough. It was a strong all round display by all members of the squad. The team defended well and only conceded one goal. FJSC took their chances well with one goal each from Isaac Jones, Archie Weir, Jacob Davies and Gregory Houghton.
FJSC Under 8 Red travelled away to Ferryside Lane to play Southport Athletic JFC Red for the first time. After a keenly contested first half FJSC were unlucky to be two goals down after conceding a couple of scrappy goals. The second half saw a much improved display with some great attacking play from Joel Wright, James Hannan and Tom Murphy. There was some great defending from Mason Todd and Isaac Pepper and a fine long range goal from Zac McHugh. Man of the match was goalkeeper Joel Craven who produced a number of good saves in the second half.
FJSC Under 6’s played Northern Yellow. The team were quick out of the blocks with four quick goals to go three goals ahead with two goals from Jacob Givin and one from Archie Phenna. In the second period Northern Yellow came back well. The FJSC boys kept going with lots of energy and effort. In the final third of the match there was a four more goals from Jacob Givin, two for Finley Duffin and an excellent solo run and goal from Matthew Miles. The boys played really well in a high scoring match which was enjoyed by all.
