Formby Village Nativity Returns This December as Much-Loved Christmas Tradition Celebrates 20 Years

🎄 One of Formby’s most cherished Christmas traditions is returning to the heart of the village this December, as local churches come together once again to bring the wonderful story of the first Christmas to life.

The annual Formby Village Nativity Play will take place on Saturday 5th December 2026 at 11am in Formby Pool Gardens, and everyone is warmly invited to attend this beautiful, free community event.

Presented by members of Churches Together in Formby, Altcar and Hightown, the outdoor performance promises to bring the true meaning of Christmas to life through the timeless story of Mary, Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus.

A Christmas Tradition Spanning 20 Years

The Formby Village Nativity has a wonderful history stretching back to 2006, when local churches first joined forces to stage an outdoor performance in the village.

What began as a way of bringing churches and the wider community together has grown into a much-loved annual tradition, enjoyed by generations of Formby families.

Over the years, the production has featured local residents, church members, talented performers and volunteers, all generously giving their time to create something special for the community.

Last December, hundreds of people gathered at Formby Pool Gardens for another memorable performance.

The 2025 production was written and directed by Dympna and Mark Edwards, with beautiful musical contributions from Make Noise Choirs, helping to create a truly uplifting Christmas atmosphere.

Families, friends and visitors came together to enjoy the performance, celebrating the spirit of Christmas and the wonderful sense of community that makes Formby so special.

Bringing the Christmas Story to Life

This year’s Nativity will once again tell the story at the heart of Christmas, inviting audiences of all ages to experience the journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus.

The event is a wonderful opportunity for families to introduce younger children to the traditional Christmas story, while older generations can enjoy a familiar and much-loved celebration.

Whether you attend church regularly or simply enjoy the warmth and togetherness of a traditional village Christmas, everyone is welcome.
