Organisers and community groups across Formby remain in limbo as concerns grow over the future of the much-loved Gild Hall Function Rooms.
Earlier this month, organisers were informed that the Gild Hall would be closing down in the first week of July. Since then, there has been very little communication from management, leaving users confused and frustrated. However, Formby Bubble has now received a formal update, which offers some clarity on the current situation.
According to a statement issued by APCMC Ltd, the company managing the Gild Hall, they are currently holding a consultation with staff about stopping licensed trading activities only – this refers to any activities that require an alcohol licence or similar.
Importantly, this does not mean the centre is definitely closing. The consultation is ongoing, and no final decisions have been made about the future of the building or the many groups and events that use it.
The statement confirms:
The current consultation is only about ceasing licensable activities.
If the outcome is that licensed activities do stop, then further discussions will take place about how the centre might operate in the future.
No final decisions or dates have been confirmed at this stage.
Those with existing bookings and community groups will be contacted once a decision is made.
The wellbeing of staff and support for the parish community remains a priority.
While this may not give the full answers many are hoping for, it does show that a full closure is not confirmed, and decisions are still being worked through.
Formby Bubble understands the frustration and uncertainty this causes and will continue to monitor the situation closely. We will share updates as soon as they become available. In the meantime, we ask the community to remain patient while the consultation runs its course.
