There has been a major update to the planned roadworks on Moor Lane in Ince Blundell, known locally as the Ince Woods route, and it will come as a huge relief to thousands of drivers.
Following widespread backlash from hundreds of residents and commuters, Sefton Council has now revised the plans. Instead of a full closure lasting nearly three weeks, the works will now take place overnight only.

The road will remain open during the day, with closures now limited to Monday to Friday between 8:00pm and 2:00am from 15th June through to 3rd July.

This key route is heavily used by anyone travelling between Formby, Southport and Liverpool, including drivers coming from Crosby, Thornton and Litherland via Brooms Cross Road. The original plan to fully close the road had sparked significant concern due to the impact it would have had on daily travel.
The change means that daytime journeys through Ince Woods and along Moor Lane should continue as normal, avoiding the severe disruption that had been expected.
The works, being carried out by contractors Dowhigh, are for essential carriageway reconstruction to improve the condition and safety of the road.
Additional nearby works are also scheduled, including activity on Scaffold Lane between 8th and 10th June by United Utilities, but the main Moor Lane works will now be far less disruptive thanks to the revised timings.
This decision has been welcomed by many across the area, with the council clearly responding to strong public feedback.
Drivers are still advised to expect some disruption during the overnight hours, but overall, this is a significant and positive change that will protect a vital daytime route between Formby and Liverpool.
