One of the area’s most important connecting routes is set to close for nearly three weeks, in what is expected to cause significant disruption for thousands of drivers travelling between Formby and Liverpool.
Moor Lane in Ince Blundell, known locally as the road through Ince Woods, will be shut in both directions from 15th June until 3rd July to allow essential carriageway reconstruction works to take place.
The closure will directly impact anyone travelling from Formby towards Liverpool, as well as those coming from Liverpool and surrounding areas including Crosby, Thornton and Litherland heading towards Formby and Southport. For many, this route is a key everyday link, particularly for those using Brooms Cross Road and cutting through Ince Woods to reach the Formby Bypass.
Sefton Council has confirmed the works are necessary to improve the road surface and ensure the safety of both workers and road users. The closure will affect the stretch between Park Wall Road and Scaffold Lane, meaning the route will be completely inaccessible throughout the works.

A signed diversion will be in place via Long Lane, Lunt Road, East Lane, Park Wall Road, Back O The Town Lane and Victoria Road, and vice versa. However, drivers are being warned that surrounding routes, particularly through Ince Blundell village, are likely to become heavily congested.
The traffic lights near the local garden centre are expected to be a major pinch point, with long queues and delays anticipated, especially during peak travel times.
Access will be maintained wherever possible for emergency services and for residents within the closure area.
The temporary closure has been authorised under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, with contractors Dowhigh carrying out the works over a period of up to 21 days.
With Ince Woods serving as a vital link between communities, motorists are being urged to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, or consider alternative routes during this period.
For many, the temporary loss of this key route will have a noticeable impact on daily travel across the area.
