Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 10 Whites produce their best performance of the season and two of the club’s Under 9 teams share the honours in FJSC’s Match of the Day.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 10 Whites went into their match against Southport Trinity Yellows with no substitutes but the team rose to the challenge and played brilliantly from start to finish. The team’s usual goalkeeper Teddy Mills played outfield for a change and Joseph Elsey stepped up to play in goal.  The Whites went one goaldown in the first half time but kept battling to get on level terms . Austin Faraday workedsuper hard in midfield and with TheoCavanagh and Joshua Gillespie who weresolid in defence, Trinity’s attacks were thwarted. Elliott Dyment and Eric Williamskept up the pressure with excellent wing play which continued into the second half. JoshuaGillespie scored a brilliant goal to equalise. It was game on and the FJSC boys

showed the most determination seen in a long time and the efforts of every player was rewarded when Teddy Mills scored the winning goal just before the final whistle. The boys were so happy and should be very proud of themselves.  Well done to the Whites and congratulations to the management team as well.   See the team photograph above.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team won 5-3 against Maghull Yellow.  The vital three points secured a joint Runners-Up final position in the Hightown Winter Premier League.  Hopefully this should give the team much confidence for the Spring League which is due to start shortly.

In the first half the Blacks played really well with controlled football both in and out of possession sprinkled with a bit of magic for the three goals. It was a more subdued effortin the second half but a fourth FJSC goalseemed to dent Maghull’s hopes of a comeback.  FJSC managed the game well until three Maghull goals in the last two minutes set up a very tense finish.  FJSC held out to win 5-3.

It was pleasing to see Ben Harris completing a full game and getting get back on the score sheet with two goals. Man of the MatchFabian Reilly also scored twice and SebBurdett-Clarke completed the scoring.  A big thank you goes to Lucas Lewis for stepping in at the last minute for the injured Ben Gregory.

FJSC Under 14 Whites played Southport Trinity without a large number of the squad not being able to play due to illness.   The Whites struggled in the first half and conceded a number of goals but lifted themselves after the interval led by the example of Evan McKeown and Man of the Match Eoin Dwyer who both played with great determination all match.

FJSC Under 12 Reds were in action against Southport FC Yellows.

The boys got off to a flying start with Frank Kulazinski pouncing on the rebound from a Chase Lowen shot to give the Reds an early lead.  Unfortunately the lead was short lived when indecision at the back saw Southport equalise and then take the lead in quick succession.

A few subs made at half time saw a mini resurgence but goals were not coming and Southport extended their lead twice leaving an uphill struggle for the Reds. Jacob Holton and Dan Ashcroft worked well together to open up the Southport defence and their tenacity paid off when Jacob slid a pass across the box for Dan to finish powerfully. Man of the Match was split between Jacob Holton and Brett McKeown whose countless saves kept theReds in the match until the final whistle.

FJSC Under 12 Whites won 7 nil against Marina Sands in the Hightown Winter Premier League.  The result sees the Whites maintain their top of the division position.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks gained a big win over Ormskirk West End to hold on to their joint top of the league place in the Hightown Winter Championship Division.  On the scoresheet were Leo Ball, James Coulton and Tom Murphy with two goals each.  Albie Graham, Jasper House, Michael Wain and Oliver Hall-Gleeson scored one goal apiece.  There were important assists made by Leo Ball, Michael Wain and Oliver Hall-Gleeson.

The two FJSC Under 12 Sunday teams together with FJSC’s Under 14 Blacks and Under 15 Blacks had no West Lancs League fixtures last Sunday.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks welcomed Southport Town to Deansgate Lane on Sunday with warm, sunny conditions providing the perfect backdrop for an excellent team performance.

The Blacks started at full throttle, immediately taking control of the game. The early breakthrough came when Olly Stinson slipped a beautifully weighted through ball to Jack Hansen, who made no mistake with a composed finish.  Southport Town responded with determined defending, slowing Formby’s momentum for a spell. The next goal arrived after Idris Jones struck firmly at goal from out wide having dribbled around three players, his effort taking a deflection on the way in.

The third goal delivered the day’s moment of brilliance. Asher Fields picked up a cleared corner and surged forward from midfield, gliding past two players before unleashing a superb left foot curler that left the goalkeeper helpless. A strike worthy of the loudest applause and certainly a contender for goal of the season.

Formby’s attacking pressure continued, and the fourth goal followed when Adam Tyler-Holland picked out Alex Rowley inside the box, who finished confidently into the bottom corner. The result was put beyond doubt after a well worked move between Noah Underwood and Ashley Jones, with Ashley showing excellent composure to lift a clever lob over the advancing goalkeeper.  Much praise to Southport Town who battled hard throughout.

A special defensive highlight arrived late in the game in a 1v1. Goalkeeper Max Byford smothered a Southport shot and preserved the clean sheet.  Both FJSC managers were full of praise for the squad’s energy, teamwork, and attitude. Man of the Match was deservedly awarded to Ethan Catleugh for a tireless display of resilience, determination, and selfless play.

FJSC Under 11 Gold played a very well organised Southport and Ainsdale Blue team.  The Gold team down to the bare nine with no substitutes kept going despite conceding a lot of goals.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks and FJSC Under 9 Reds played each other in the second club derby of the new year. Both teams started strongly as the game ebbed and flowed in the opening half.  There were good interchanges between Alex Kirkby and Isaac Kamel which led to a few early chances for the Reds.  Ray Birkett continued to excel in his centre midfield role.  The Reds dominated the majority of the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead at half time.

Into the second half the Blacks started to become the more dominant force. A well-placed ball from Oscar Craven up to Ted Middleton was neatly passed on to Sam O’Brien who scored with a neat finish to givethe Blacks the lead. The Blacks weredetermined to find another goal. The Reds came back and were not to be denied an equaliser when Milo House scored with a good close range effort from an Ed Makinsoncross.

The match became more intense as the Blacks kept pushing for a second goal in the last few minutes with long shots from William Kenny.  The Reds defence and confident goalkeeping kept the Blacks at bay.  It was a great gameplayed out by the two FJSC teams and a draw was a fitting and fair result as every player of both teams played so well and were all a great credit to FJSC.

The Black’s Man of the Match was Isaac Murphy for his outstanding midfield display.   The Man of the Match award for the Reds went to Ed Makinson for an excellent role in defence.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Sunday team had anexciting and closely contested game with much improved Redgate Rovers Greens.  It was a tight match throughout, with clear chances at a premium for both sides. TheWhites team delivered a solid and disciplined performance, working hard for one another and mostly well organised. While the teamcompeted well across the pitch, they struggledto create enough opportunities in the final third to really test the Redgate goalkeeper.

There were plenty of positives to take from the match. The work rate and determination on display were excellent and a special mention goes to Sammy Porter, who was awarded Player of the Match for an outstanding effort. There were also hard working performances from the White’s scorer Jimmy Duckworth as well as from Rex Friday, Corey Flynn, JamesWitterick, Jack Kefford and Tom Babun.
