Traffic warning as several sets of roadworks cause delays across Formby and Ince Blundell

Motorists are being warned to allow extra time for journeys this evening as several sets of roadworks are affecting roads around Formby and Ince Blundell, with particularly severe congestion currently being reported on Scaffold Lane.

Scaffold Lane, Ince Blundell:

The most significant problems at present are on Scaffold Lane, where traffic heading north towards Southport is currently at a standstill.

The queue is stretching back through Ince Woods from the direction of St Joseph’s Hospice, causing considerable delays for motorists travelling north.

According to the roadworks information, a lane closure is scheduled on Scaffold Lane between Orrell Hill Lane and Liverpool Road from 6pm until 9pm today, Monday 21 September.

The works are being carried out by Sefton Council for grass cutting.

Anyone travelling towards Southport using this route this evening is advised to allow considerably more time or use an alternative route where possible.

North End Lane, Ince Blundell:

There are also roadworks currently underway on North End Lane.

Openreach is carrying out utility works with temporary two way traffic signals in operation.

The works began at 2pm today and are currently scheduled to continue until 11.59pm on Wednesday 23 September.

A pedestrian walkway is also being provided while the work takes place.

Moss Lane:

Openreach is also carrying out utility works on Moss Lane, with temporary two way traffic signals in place.

These works also began at 2pm today and are scheduled to remain in place until 11.59pm on Wednesday 23 September.

Liverpool Road, Formby:

There are further delays possible on Liverpool Road, where United Utilities Water is carrying out work for a new service connection.

Multi way temporary traffic signals are in operation and the works began at 9am today.

They are currently scheduled to continue until 11.59pm on Wednesday 23 September, with a pedestrian walkway being provided during the work.

Further works in Formby Village:

Motorists and pedestrians should also be aware of works beginning on Halsall Lane and Furness Avenue in Formby Village from today, Monday 21 September, which are scheduled to continue until Friday 2 October.

The works are taking place outside the Marks & Spencer store at the junction of Halsall Lane and Furness Avenue and involve façade repair work, including the replacement of a window using a cherry picker.

A footway closure will be in place while the work is carried out, with an alternative pedestrian route provided.

The works are not expected to involve the carriageway itself, so significant traffic delays are not currently anticipated at this location.

According to the official roadworks information, the works are being carried out on behalf of Marks & Spencer and are scheduled to remain in place until 2 October.

With several sets of temporary traffic lights and roadworks taking place at the same time, motorists travelling through Formby and Ince Blundell should expect delays over the next couple of days.

The most serious issue this evening is currently Scaffold Lane, particularly for traffic heading north towards Southport, where vehicles are queuing through Ince Woods from St Joseph’s Hospice.
