A Southport man has been banned from entering a number of stores across Sefton, including Boots in Formby, after being handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Craig Walsh, 38, of Braemer Avenue, Southport, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 9 June, where the order was granted and will remain in place until June 2028.
The order was issued after Walsh was charged with five shop theft offences committed at supermarkets and retail stores in Southport, Birkdale and Formby.
As part of the CBO, Walsh is prohibited from entering Boots in Formby, along with B&M Express, Morrisons, Tesco Express, Tesco and Central 12 Retail Park in Southport, and Spar and Aldi in Birkdale.
Walsh is currently serving a prison sentence for a separate robbery offence after being remanded into custody on 5 May.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “Walsh targeted numerous retailers across Sefton, which can have a devastating effect on businesses, employees and customers. Retail crime can contribute to rising costs for businesses and the wider community.
“Through the work of the Merseyside Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership, Neighbourhood Policing Teams and the Preventative Orders Team, residents can expect to see an increase in the use of Criminal Behaviour Orders, which are powerful tools in tackling repeat offenders.”
“We remain committed to supporting our local communities and retailers across Sefton by taking firm action against those responsible for these crimes.”
Police say the order is designed to help protect local businesses and prevent further offending across the borough.
