Shock as Formby Village Post Office Closes Until Further Notice

Residents have been left shocked today after learning that the main Post Office in Brows Lane, Formby Village, has closed with immediate effect and will remain shut until further notice. A notice on their door earlier today said it was only closed for the day due to an audit.

The closure was confirmed in an email sent to Bill Esterson MP’s office, which stated that the branch is “temporarily closed due to operational reasons” and that Post Office Ltd. is “working to restore services as quickly as possible.”

A follow-up message from Post Office Ltd read:

“Dear Bill,

I’m contacting you to let you know that unfortunately Formby Post Office is temporarily closed for operational reasons. We are working to restore services as quickly as possible and will be in touch with a further update as soon as we can.

We apologise to our customers who may have to travel further to access services while the branch is closed. Our website Branch Finder has details of the alternative branches in the area if needed for any enquiries.”

The Brows Lane Post Office team also shared a personal message for customers:

“We want to thank our lovely and loyal customers for their patronage. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the control of this office and its dedicated staff, we will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully this will be temporary, but as of Wednesday 5th November we have no date for our reopening. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience and we hope to see you again in the future.”

MP Statement

Bill Esterson MP confirmed that he has been in contact with Post Office Ltd and is seeking further details on when the Brows Lane branch will reopen.

He has assured residents that he will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.

The unexpected closure has caused frustration in the community, particularly for older residents and local businesses who rely on the Post Office for essential postal and banking services.

Clarification About the Post Box

Several residents have also noticed that the front panel of one of the post boxes outside the Brows Lane Post Office has been removed.

We can confirm that this is not an act of vandalism. The front is currently being replaced with a newer, modernised design as part of planned maintenance by Royal Mail.

The post box remains secure, and residents are asked not to attempt to post letters there until it has been fully reinstated.
