Palm Oil Waste Reported on Sefton Coast – Dog Owners Urged to Take Care

Green Sefton has issued a reminder to residents and visitors that palm oil waste washing up along the Sefton coastline is, unfortunately, a regular occurrence.
A small amount of palm oil residue was reported on Ainsdale Beach this week and while this can sometimes cause concern, Green Sefton has confirmed that palm oil waste is not routinely removed unless it appears in extreme quantities.
Importantly, the residue does not pose a risk to wildlife, however it can be harmful if consumed by dogs. Dog owners are therefore being advised to remain vigilant, particularly along the tideline and water’s edge, where the waste is most likely to collect.
🐕 Advice for dog walkers
Keep dogs under close control
Consider using a lead near the shoreline
Prevent dogs from sniffing or ingesting any unusual waxy substances
Formby Bubble will continue to share updates when relevant to help keep our community informed and safe while enjoying our beautiful coastline.
📍 Areas affected may include Formby, Ainsdale, Southport and Crosby
