More than 700 parking fines were reportedly issued across the Sefton coastline on Bank Holiday Monday, with Formby seeing some of the worst parking problems as thousands headed to the beach during the hot weather.
Traffic wardens and police spent hours dealing with illegally parked vehicles after beach car parks filled to capacity early in the day. Cars were parked on double yellow lines, pavements, grass verges, cycle lanes, junctions and outside residential driveways across large parts of Formby.

Areas including Bushbys Lane, Beechwood Drive, Kirklake Road, Ward Avenue and surrounding residential streets became heavily congested, with some residents unable to access or leave their homes easily due to the volume of traffic and inconsiderate parking.

Emergency vehicles were also seen struggling to navigate through the gridlock at times as police worked to keep roads open for incidents along the coastline.
The parking fines were issued as part of efforts to keep roads safe and clear during one of the busiest beach days Formby has experienced so far this year.
Many residents are now once again calling for long term solutions to help manage the growing pressure on Formby during major heatwaves and bank holiday weekends.
