A 26-year-old man from #Formby has been jailed following a serious domestic incident that took place in the town last year.
Michael Flanagan, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Friday 27 June), where he was sentenced to four years in prison. He was found guilty of attempted Section 18 wounding with intent, dangerous driving, and threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place.
The offences occurred in November 2024. On Saturday 23 November, Flanagan threatened a woman with a knife at her home in Formby. Although she was physically unharmed, the incident left her extremely shaken.
The following evening (Sunday 24 November), Flanagan was driving through Formby with the same woman as a passenger. He drove dangerously and at high speed, eventually crashing the vehicle. Thankfully, the woman managed to escape and was assisted by a member of the public, who alerted police. Flanagan was arrested at the scene and later charged.
In addition to his prison sentence, he was handed a seven-year restraining order and disqualified from driving.
Detective Constable Josh Beswick said: “Flanagan is clearly a dangerous individual who subjected the victim to repeated violence and threats. This kind of behaviour has no place in our communities.”
“I want to commend the incredible bravery of the victim for supporting this prosecution. Her strength throughout the court process has been immense, and we hope this result helps her move forward to a brighter future.”
“Domestic abuse of any kind will not be tolerated in Merseyside. We urge anyone suffering in silence to come forward – you will be listened to, and you will be supported.”
