Drivers travelling in and out of Formby along Liverpool Road have been facing daily delays due to long-term roadworks which are currently in progress between Liverpool Road and the Formby Bypass (A565).
The works, which began on 26th August and are scheduled to run until 14th November, are part of Section 278 improvement works linked to the new Barratt Homes development at Pinewood Park.
What’s Happening?
The project involves the construction of a new signalised junction, as well as associated works including:
New bus stop facilities
Upgraded footways and pedestrian walkways
Traffic islands
Removal of hedgerow
Resurfacing over an area approximately 300m x 15m
To carry out the works safely, multi-way temporary traffic signals are in place and are manned daily from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.

Impact on Traffic
The temporary lights have led to significant congestion at peak times, with delays for drivers heading into Formby as well as those leaving towards the bypass. Many residents have voiced frustration at the ongoing disruption, especially with this being one of the main routes in and out of the village.
Project Timeline
Start date: 26 August (09:00 BST)
End date (scheduled): 14 November (23:59 GMT)
Location: Liverpool Road at Pinewood Park, Barratt Homes site (coordinates 330325 / 405950)
Highway Authority: Sefton Council
The works are expected to continue right through the autumn, with phased activity taking place under temporary signals.
Advice for Road Users
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. Where possible, drivers may wish to seek alternative routes to avoid the worst of the congestion.
