Motorists are being advised to plan ahead as Altcar Road, Formby, one of the main routes into the town from the Formby Bypass, is scheduled to close for almost two weeks next month.
According to roadworks information published, United Utilities will be carrying out utility repair and maintenance works, requiring a full road closure from Monday 10 August until Friday 21 August.
The closure will be in place 24 hours a day throughout the works, and delays are likely, particularly as Altcar Road is a key access route into Formby.
A signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works, directing traffic via Church Road, Ryeground Lane and Southport Road, before rejoining the normal route. The diversion is approximately 1.94 kilometres in length and is expected to take around three minutes under normal traffic conditions.
Emergency access will be maintained at all times during the works.
The works have been authorised by Sefton Council, with a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) in place. At this stage, United Utilities has not published a detailed description of the specific work being carried out.
If you regularly use Altcar Road to travel into or out of Formby, it is advisable to allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible while the closure is in place.
We will share any further updates as soon as more information becomes available.
