Motorists are being warned to allow extra time for their journeys as the full closure of Orrell Hill Lane, Ince Blundell, continues until Wednesday 10th June, causing significant congestion across the area.
The road has been closed by United Utilities to allow new water connection works to take place and is scheduled to remain shut until 11:59pm on Wednesday.
The closure is having a major impact on traffic, particularly during peak morning and evening rush hours, with long queues and tailbacks being reported on surrounding routes, including the Formby Bypass and nearby roads used as diversion routes.
A signed diversion is currently in place via Scaffold Lane, Moor Lane, Ince Lane and Southport Road, but motorists should expect delays as increased traffic is being funnelled onto these roads.
United Utilities has confirmed that emergency access will be maintained at all times while the works are carried out.
If you regularly travel through the area, particularly between Formby, Ince Blundell, Thornton and Crosby, it may be worth considering alternative routes or allowing additional time for your journey until the works are completed.
