Local hero’s The Orange Army and The Beach Angels are turning on this years Christmas lights

Local heroes who are switching on the Formby Christmas lights 2021 are Formby community football club (known as the orange Army). They are a group of volunteers who have worked throughout the pandemic shopping for people (especially the elderly), collecting medicines, providing gifts to cheer people up, including flowers and chocolates. They also provided an afternoon tea for the elderly for VE Day, special gifts for mothering Sunday and without them people would have remained in their homes without any contact with the outside world, they have been fantastic throughout the pandemic and are still Volunteering today.

We would have been lost without them they have been led by Tina Hamilton and many other volunteers who have been in the thick of things in the pandemic and all of which deserve the special recognition and we welcome them to assist with the switching on of the lights.

Also chosen were our fantastic Formby Beach Angels who have worked tirelessly to keep our wonderful beach clean. The state it has been left in on many occasions would make you cry but this group of volunteers have worked tirelessly to pick up the rubbish that’s others have left and to keep our beach looking spic and span. The team has been coordinated by Tracy Crostlewaite and without the army of volunteers who litter pick and who must have removed tons of rubbish on our beach would not be as it is. Unfortunately there is Nobody to represent the beach angels but we would still like to show our thanks and recognise everything that they have done in our community.

Both these organisations are the unsung heroes of our community and are the glue that kept us together through the pandemic.

We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas for 2021 and 2022 may be a better year for us all.

We also like to thank Formby Parish Council who have invested heavily in the Christmas lights and who have put this event on to bring some joy to our community.
