Holly’s Minimart will officially reopen today, Friday 30 January, at 11am, following a substantial refurbishment and expansion that has completely transformed the store.
We were invited in this morning for a sneak preview ahead of opening, and the difference is remarkable. The shop is now bright, spacious and beautifully laid out, fully stocked from wall to wall and significantly larger than before. It is clear that a huge amount of thought has gone into both the design and the customer experience.
One standout feature is the separate internal beer shop, which includes electric safety doors to prevent children accessing alcohol.

With a school located directly opposite, this extra safeguarding measure shows just how carefully everything has been considered.
The redevelopment represents an investment of almost £500,000, increasing the store’s footprint from 1,100 sq ft to 2,800 sq ft by incorporating the former soft play centre next door. Every area has been fully refitted with brand new equipment and modern fixtures, creating a high quality convenience store at the heart of the community.
Holly’s has reopened as a Premier convenience store. Premier stores are independently owned and run by local retailers, supported by one of the UK’s largest convenience symbol groups, with more than 4,400 stores nationwide. The brand is well known for combining trusted high street brands, competitive pricing and strong community focus. Premier became part of the Tesco family in 2018, following Tesco’s acquisition of Booker Group.
Services and features available now and coming soon include:

Costa Express coffee
Tango Fizzy Ice Station
Thick Shake milkshakes
Hot food counter and in store bakery
A chilled Beer Cave
PerfectDraft beer kegs
ATM machine
Lottery services
PayPoint and Payzone top ups
Parcel services
Snappy Shopper home delivery
Freshfield Bakery products

Further services currently being explored, subject to approval, include EV charging points, a Post Office counter, a sandwich bar, fresh ready meals and healthy meal boxes.
The store will be trading with extended opening hours, from 6am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 10pm on Sundays. Over the next few days, customers will also see further finishing touches as merchandisers arrive and a brand new signboard is installed.
Looking ahead, Holly’s will be launching Snappy Shopper home delivery on 2 February, with a community focused launch day planned. Activities will include a store dash in support of a local foodbank, face painting for children, spin to win prizes and giveaways, reinforcing the store’s strong community ethos.
A grand launch event is planned for 20 February, with more details to follow.
Holly’s Minimart remains locally owned and operated, combining independent retail values with the strength of a national brand. After seeing the transformation firsthand, it is clear this is a significant and welcome addition to Formby.
