Great matches all round for Formby Junior Sports Club

ree

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 15’s win vital match to stay joint top of the Winter League with one match to play.  Also unbeaten FJSC Under 11 Blacks have reached the cup semi-final stage after another impressive display.  At Inter Club there is also good news as the Reception and Year One groups continue to grow.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15’s went joint top with just onematch left to play in the West LancashireWinter League as they overcame a resilient Kirkby Town FC to win 5-0.

Ethan Richmond got FJSC off to a great start by scoring early with a solo effort as he waltzed through the Kirkby defence before slotting the ball calmly past the advancing goalkeeper. Ethan Murphy then set up a second goal with some excellent wing play on the right, crossing to Yaroslav Vovnianko who hit a first-time half volley into the far corner. A third goal came before half time as Ollie Dean finished superbly with a side foot shot placing the ball into the far corner of the goal after being set up by Ethan Richmond.

In the second half Kirkby pushed forward but FJSC’s defence held strong, and Riley Higgs made a couple of good saves to ensure he kept a clean sheet, before two late goals sealed the win. Ethan Richmond powered home a drive from the edge of the area to make it 4-0, and then he turned provider as he set up Ben Cargill to tap home the fifth, adding the finish to a well worked team goal.  See team photograph above.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Sunday team were involved in a high scoring encounter with Southport FC. The Blacks battled for every ball, won their individual battles and kept their cool in a physical game. The composure seemed to emanate from the back with SebBurdett-Clarke, Henry Wynne, Joe Tucker, Harry Redhead and Nathan Lynch all working as a single unit. Despite being out of possession for the first twenty minutes FJSC took their opportunities and cruised into a fourgoal lead with outstanding goals from Fabian Reilly, Will Madutlela and Jenson Heron.

Southport FC pulled some goals back but the Blacks stood up against the test.   WillMadutlela then scored his second goal of the match and a brace from Connor Howellssealed a 7-4 victory. There were many individuals to praise in a very good team display but Man of the Match went to Fabian Reilly for an outstanding performance from start to finish.

FJSC Under 13 Whites fell behind early on to two quick Marina Sands goals.  After this initial period Formby defended well but eventually went further behind to find themselves 4 nil down at half time. Despite a spirited second half performance withexcellent defending from Noah Lace and Gregory Houghton in particular the score remined the same until the last few minutes when Marina Sands added three more goals.  Man of the Match was Greyson Fox.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks had their first game in three weeks and it showed as they struggled to show any patterns of play that their games usually show. Their opponents Redgate started to impose their dominance on the game especially in midfield and just before half time after some good build up play took a deserved 1-0 lead.

FJSC managed to reach half-time only 1 goal down and tried to regroup at half time but it just wasn’t to be as they struggled to create any real chances in front of goal. Halfway through the second half Redgate doubled the lead and just before the final whistle made it 3nil.

FJSC couldn’t complain about the result and will regroup next week and come out determined to find the form they had before the three week break. Despite this blip in form FJSC Blacks still hold on to top position in a very competitive Premier Division.

FJSC Under 12 Whites Sunday team also without a match for three consecutive weeks due to poor weather finally returned to actionagainst Redgate in a friendly match thanks to the reliability of a 3G pitch, which made the game playable despite the lingering wet conditions.

FJSC started brilliantly, taking control of the match with an early lead through Jaiden Crosby. Redgate pulled one back but then Finnbar Coss and Zac Cooper both scored tomake it 3-1. The energy, movement, and confidence on the ball was there to see after such a long break.

Unfortunately, as the match wore on the Whites struggled to maintain that early composure. Momentum shifted, and Redgatewere able to climb back into the game. Despite efforts to steady things, FJSCconceded late on and the match finished in a frustrating 4–3 defeat.

A major positive on the day was JaidenCrosby, who earned Man of the Match for his tireless work in midfield and for scoring his first goal of the season—a brilliant reward for his persistence and growing influence on the pitch.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks Sunday team lost 3-1 to 7 Elite Academy Mundial in the West LancsLeague.

All Hightown Junior League matches were cancelled last Saturday which meant there were no matches for five FJSC Representative teams.

FJSC Under 12 Reds played away at Southport Trinity White in the cup and got off to their usual good start with solid tackling and strong midfield play. A huge clearance from Brett McKeown set Chase Lowenthrough one on one with the Trinity keeperand chipped with a sweet left foot finish to put the Reds ahead. The boys were able to remain solid for the rest of the half with Lucas Firth and Mason Todd defending excellently and Jacob Holton leading the line with great hold up play as the Reds took their lead into half time.

The second half saw a number of substitutionsmade which upset the rhythm a little with Trinity taking advantage scoring with a bullet header and then a defensive mix-up resulted in an unfortunate own goal. Heads dropped a little at this point. A number of heroic saves from Brett McKeown kept the Reds in the game but Trinity were able to score a decisivethird goal to win 3-1 . Man of the Match went to Brett McKeown for his quality saves and precision distribution.  It was a very good effort by Championship Division FJSC Reds who gave Premier Division Southport Trinity a hard fought match.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks produced a dominant and brilliantly controlled performance to book their place in the semi-finals of the Harry Cope Memorial Cup, running out convincing 9 nil winners against Burscough DynamoGreen.

From the outset, FJSC showed their intent with sharp movement, quick combinations, and relentless pressure high up the pitch.Formby opened the scoring early, with Jack Hansen setting up Alex Rowley to make it 1–0.  The second goal followed soon after when a

well taken corner by Jack Hansen was headed home by Noah Underwood. Before the break, a flowing team move saw Alex Rowley set up Ethan Catleugh to make it 3-0, and moments later Noah Underwood  assisted Alex Rowleyto score the fourth to cap a dominant half.

FJSC continued their momentum after the restart.  Alex Rowley added another to make it 5–0, showing great composure in front of goal. The sixth and seventh goals came from Noah Underwood who was assisted by Ethan Catleugh, before Jack Hansen got on the scoresheet again with a tidy finish.  Formby rounded off the scoring with a ninth goal when Ethan Catleugh once again combined with Noah Underwood to complete a superb hat-trick for a thoroughly deserved victory.

Well done to Joseph Kerrigan who earned himself the Man of the Match trophy for his superb defending, playing out from the back and making an outstanding tackle in the dying seconds of the game to maintain the clean sheet for the team.

FJSC Under 11 Gold produced  a great displayagainst Southport Athletic in the cup competition.  The Gold team went one goaldown in the first half but drew level in the second when Ahmed Abdulafeez scored with a penalty to bring it back to 1-1.  SouthportAthletic had another penalty but missed and FJSC also had a number of chances to make it 2-1 but unfortunately could not capitalise. At full time it finished 1-1 so the match then went to penalties.  The Gold team sadly lost 5-3 in the shoot-out but it was a brilliant effort by every member of the team who all worked so hard and never stopped running.

FJSC Under 10 Whites started off really wellagainst Crosby Stuart but just before half time conceded two goals.  It changed the game as the Whites lost confidence and Crosby Stuart took control in the second half.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks endured a harsh scoreline despite a much-improved performanceagainst Southport Trinity Black. Trinity started on the front foot and looked the more threatening side throughout the first half, but FJSC matched them with determined defending, strong battling, and better teamwork than in recent weeks. Against the run of pressure, and with a couple of key interventions at the back, Formby somehow reached half time still level at 0-0.

The Blacks showed real spirit after the restart and even fashioned a few chances of their own, but most of the second half was spent resisting wave after wave of Trinity attacks. Trinity missed some big opportunities, and with time ticking away it began to feel like Formby might cling on for a deserved stalemate. However, the game turned late on. A flurry of goals in the final eight minutes sealed it for Trinity.

It was disappointing result, but a far more accomplished display than the score suggests—and plenty of positives to take into the next match.

FJSC Under 9 Reds started brightly and competed well in the opening exchangesagainst Marina Sands. After a good start the Marina forwards combined well in quick succession to put them ahead via some neat finishing. After successfully weathering the storm an exquisite pass from Ed Makinsonfound Milo House who neatly finished under the goalkeeper to halve the deficit. The rest of the first half remained tight with long and short range efforts from Ed Makinson and Oliver Horder respectively being thwarted by the Marina goalkeeper.

After a half time a change of goalkeepers saw Finn Constable playing the second half on the left side of midfield. The goalscoring streak continued for Finn whose wand of a left foot struck twice. Firstly direct from a corner and secondly a long range screamer which brought gasps from both the home and away ends at the Chesterfield Playing Fields.  Special mention to Adam Hennigan who has excelled in both training and games recently. He epitomised what is needed to be successful with his willingness to put the team first. Man of the Match was Finley Constable.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Sunday team played very well against Churchtown Jaguars scoring four goals.  Cian O’Farrell scored twice and there was one goal each for Sammy Porter and James Witterick. The Churchtown goalkeeper made some great saves.  For the Whites the stand- in keepers all did well and only one goal was conceded.  There were a few experimental changes made which will help for future matches.  It was a very good overall performance by every player.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks were in action against Crosby Stuart and continued their good run of results in a close match.  Max Healey and Man of the Match Harry Brown scored one goal each. Goalkeeper Albee Fairhurst made a string of excellent saves.
