Frank’s Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

It was another very good weekend of football at Formby Junior Sports Club. Inter Club football was very well attended despite it being a Bank Holiday weekend and nearly all the Representative teams played matches with full squads of players.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM FOOTBALL

The stand-out fixture of the weekend was without doubt the match between FJSC Under 10 Blacks and FJSC Under 10 Whites.

It was a very entertaining match. The Whites took the lead early in the game only for Lewis Donoghue to equalise for FJSC Blacks with a very well taken goal scored from a tight angle. The Blacks were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping. The Whites came back strongly and scored twice before half time to lead 3-1.

In the second half Lewis Donoghue scored an excellent team goal for the Blacks, ably finishing off a good passing move involving Charlie Knowles, Ollie Dean and Tom Donnelly. The Blacks continued to push forward looking to score a third goal to level the score but it was the Whites who scored from a corner to extend their lead again before the end.

Man of the match for FJSC Blacks was Lewis Donoghue for his two goals and overall performance.

After a good performance last week FJSC Under 16 Blacks started well against league leaders Ormskirk West End. Conor Leyland put FJSC ahead after a good run and cross into the box from Sam Cousens. Ormskirk West End replied soon after with a speculative long range shot. FJSC took the lead again when Callum Davidson scored a free kick from thirty yards. It was one of the goals of the season. FJSC held the lead into the second half and looked comfortable. Chances came to extend the lead but Ormskirk held firm and then took the game to FJSC and scored twice to narrowly win 3-2. It was a big disappointment after such a great effort by the whole Under 16 squad. Andy Kimmance was man of match for a solid display at centre back. Joe Nel also played very well.

FJSC Under 15 Whites lost 4-2 to Dynamo Rangers but there was another good win for FJSC Under 13 Blacks. The Blacks won 3-2 against Burscough Dynamo Green. After four matches played, FJSC Under 13’s has won three times and are currently in joint second place.

FJSC Under 11’s Sunday team were in action against Freshfield FC. The Under 11’s conceded a goal in the first half but came back to draw level in the second half when man of the match Dominic Maxwell scored after a great run down the wing and a delightful cross by James Cook.

FJSC Under 8’s produced an excellent team performance against Southport Hesketh and there were some brilliant team goals scored. Scoring the goals for FJSC were Harrison Taylor, Zac Hooson-Jones and Harry McKenna. There was some excellent defending in the second half which led to a clean sheet for the team. Well done to man of the match Zac Hooson-Jones.

FJSC Under 7 Whites faced Redgate again in another good game of football. The Whites played well throughout and there was some excellent passing and moving. Striker Mason Stringer, midfielder Diego Funes-Cervera and man of the match Thomas Crutchley scored the goals for FJSC. Clayton Gilbertson and Josh Tallon tackled well in defence and produced tireless displays.

FJSC Under 7 Blacks played Southport Athletic Blacks and got off to a fantastic start when Joseph Kenyon scored in the first minute. There were lots of chances in the first half for both teams with Southport Athletic eventually converting an opportunity before half time. The second half was very even with Finn McDerby, Will Roberts and Ryan Lamb all working hard. Eventually Southport Athletic gained the upper hand and deservedly scored two more goals.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

The first five weeks since the restart of football has seen very encouraging progress being made in the FJSC Inter Club Section.

The four years olds and Reception group is growing each Saturday. The Year One’s are improving all the time. The Year Two section bubbles with great enthusiasm. The Year Three/Four numbers are growing allowing after the training session for two matches to be organised by coach Colin. The Year Five/Six boys are making very good progress and it was pleasing to see some of the Saturday Under 11 team attending on their free week from normal fixtures.

Everything is going well in Inter Club and with eight sessions left to the end of the extended season further progress should be made.

The photograph at the beginning of this report shows a very happy group of boys from the four year old, Reception and Year One group during their interval after very active and fun coaching sessions with Jordan and Tom. Five minutes later the same boys were delighting their parents in three exciting small sided games of football. The smiles on all the boys’ faces at the end of the matches was great to see.
