Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club
It was another very good turnout at Formby Junior Sports Club last weekend despite very stormy weather conditions. Enthusiasm for football doesn’t wane as the youngsters at Inter Club come togged up each Saturday. There were a number of high scoring Representative team matches as much depended on scoring as many goals as possible when having the wind as an advantage.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
Once again FJSC Under 8 Reds produced an excellent team performance illustrating just how much the boys in their first season of competitive football have improved. On Sunday the Reds hosted Southport FC. The first half was a keenly fought competitive game which saw FJSC edge it by a goal to the good when Joel Wright raced clear and scored from close range. The second half was very exciting as Southport came back strongly. The Reds showed great determination which led to Mason Todd scoring his first ever competitive goal with a long range screamer. The two teams were level at 2-2 until FJSC’s Tom Murphy dribbled the ball from his own half to coolly slot home the winning goal for the Reds. Every team member played well. There was some tireless front play by James Hannan and gritty midfield performances from Zac McHugh and Jenson Gray. Good defensive displays from Joel Craven and Isaac Pepper made sure that the Reds held on to their slender advantage to the final whistle was blown.
FJSC Under 16 Whites were in action against Greenloons. It was 1-1 at half time and the match continued to be very even in the second half as well which resulted in a 3-3 scoreline. FJSC’s man of the match was Luke Honour for scoring a well-taken hat-trick.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played their first match in the Hightown League based cup competition against L4. The Under 12’s were losing 1 nil at half time. Unfortunately two second half injuries meant that FJSC had to play the final few minutes of the match with one player less than their opponents and during this period conceded two more goals. Man of the match was Isaac Burns.
FJSC Under 12’s Sunday team lost 6-1 to Southport Trinity. It was a below par performance which all teams have from time to time. Full credit to Trinity who adapted well to the very windy weather conditions. Man of the match was Daniel Hill.
The FJSC Under 11 Blacks match was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
FJSC Under 9 Whites had a close game in blustery conditions with Southport and Ainsdale. S. and A. took an early two goal lead but FJSC battled back hard and reduced the deficit to one by the break when Rowan Jones scored. Despite an onslaught with the wind helping in the second half FJSC just could not find the equaliser. S. and A. scored on the counter attack just before the end as FJSC went all out in attack. It was another excellent performance despite the result. Man of the match was Rowan Jones for a brilliantly taken goal.
FJSC Under 8 Whites were involved in an eleven goal end to end match with Altown on Saturday. Scoring for the Whites were Joshua Halpin, Josh Tallon and Edward Oliver. Two FJSC shots also hit the post.
On Sunday the Under 8 Whites played Redgate Green in another high scoring extravaganza. It was very much a match of two halves with some spectacular goals from both teams. On target with goals for the Whites were Jack Farrell, Joshua Halpin, Isaac Rimmer, Jaiden Crosby and Josh Tallon.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks were in action against a very well organised Southport Trinity Blue. For most of the match the Blacks defended manfully but did conceded two goals in each half. Goalkeeper Harrison Hughes made a string of excellent saves. Man of the match for his tireless work throughout went to Finn McDerby.
FJSC Under 6’s played a good Clay Brow Madrid team. A hat-trick from Charlie Ormesher in only his second match was the highlight of a pleasing team display in which every boy played their part. There were some well taken goals scored by boys from both teams. Man of the match was Charlie Ormesher. Good contributions were also made by Finley Duffin, Daniel Johnson, Archie Phenna, Elliott Dyment and Oliver Parrish.
INTER CLUB SECTION
There was another very enjoyable morning’s football and coaching despite the very wet and windy conditions.
It was difficult for referees to record the names of some scorers on soggy result cards. Here is a shorter list than normal of the names of the goal scorers that could be deciphered – Joel Craven, Joel Wright, Sylvan O’Hara, Max Brown, George Rowan, Jacob Davies, Archie Weir, Zac Hooson-Jones and Ben Harris.
The good news for all our Inter Club footballers is that there will be sessions on both Saturdays of half term.
