One of Formby’s most colourful and much loved community events is set to return this Saturday, 6th June, as the talented Formby Yarn Bombers once again take over the village for International Yarn Bombing Day.
Organised by Imagine Formby, the event has become a firm favourite in the local calendar, with residents and visitors eagerly awaiting the unveiling of this year’s secret creations.

For months, a dedicated team of knitters and crocheters have been working behind the scenes, creating hundreds of handcrafted pieces ready to transform Formby Village into a vibrant outdoor art gallery. While the themes remain closely guarded until the big reveal, previous years have featured everything from Postman Pat and playful monkeys to entire vehicles covered in colourful yarn.
The dedicated volunteers will be out before dawn, carefully installing their displays across the village before most people are even awake. Trees, benches, lampposts, bollards and other features throughout the village will be wrapped in imaginative knitted and crocheted artwork, bringing colour, creativity and plenty of smiles to everyone passing through.

Despite challenging weather conditions in previous years, including thunderstorms and torrential rain, the yarn bombers have continued to deliver spectacular displays that have attracted hundreds of visitors and become one of Formby’s most photographed annual events.
Yarn bombing is a unique form of street art that uses knitted and crocheted materials to decorate public spaces. What started as a creative idea has grown into a wonderful community tradition that showcases local talent while brightening up the village for residents and visitors alike.
Formby Bubble would like to wish all of the yarn bombers the very best for another fantastic display and thank them for the countless hours of work that go into creating this unique event each year.
If you are in Formby on Saturday, be sure to take a stroll around the village and see what surprises await. Judging by previous years, there will be plenty of smiles, photographs and “wow” moments throughout the day.
