Six talented swimmers from Formby Swimming Club travelled to Blackpool Palatine Pool on Saturday to compete at the Garstang Swimming Club Gala, and despite being one of the smallest teams in attendance, they delivered an outstanding set of performances.
Elliot (9) made a remarkable debut at his first-ever open gala. Having only recently turned nine, he achieved an incredible four medals from four events, taking home two silver and two bronze medals across the 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. He also recorded personal best times in every race, including an excellent 42.74 seconds in the 50m Freestyle.
Will (10) competed in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley. He secured two medals, including a silver in the 50m Butterfly with a superb time of 42.93 seconds. He also finished less than half a second away from County Qualification times in both the Butterfly and Freestyle events.
Jasmine (10) competed in six events and earned two medals, including a silver in the 100m Backstroke. She also achieved a County Qualification time of 37.6 seconds in the 50m Freestyle, although a technical timing issue resulted in an official stopwatch-recorded time of 38.88 seconds.
Ciara (11) produced one of the performances of the day. Despite returning after four weeks away from training due to illness and a family holiday, she recorded five personal bests from six races. Competing against a strong field, she won three silver medals and claimed gold in the 50m Freestyle with an impressive time of 32.72 seconds. Already holding several County Qualification times, she now has her sights firmly set on Regional competition.
Ewan (12) tackled six events and achieved three personal bests in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. His determination paid off when he secured a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 45.98 seconds, earning his first-ever County Qualification time.
Jess (14), the club’s Team Captain, once again demonstrated exceptional consistency and leadership. Across seven races she won two gold medals in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley, along with three silver medals in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. She also recorded a superb personal best of 1:02.90 in the 100m Freestyle and finished within touching distance of her best times in every other event.

A huge congratulations to all six swimmers for their hard work, dedication and fantastic achievements. The club would also like to thank the parents and supporters whose encouragement throughout the day played such an important role.
