Formby Beach has once again taken centre stage as filming continues for the Apple TV+ smash hit Silo. Since Saturday 13 September, large sections of the beach car park have been sectioned off to make room for dozens of production vehicles, equipment, and crew. While many locals have been frustrated by the disruption, the buzz of international filming on our doorstep is undeniable.

The series stars the fabulous Rebecca Ferguson, who has thrilled audiences in Mission: Impossible, Dune, and of course, as Juliette Nichols in Silo.
Based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling novels, Silo is a gripping dystopian thriller set in a future where humanity survives in a giant underground silo, cut off from the outside world. The first season, released in 2023, received worldwide acclaim for its tension, scope, and standout performances.
Apple TV+ has confirmed that Silo will continue for a third and fourth season, filmed back-to-back to adapt the remainder of Hugh Howey’s trilogy. These seasons will bring the story to its dramatic conclusion, although fans may have to wait until around 2027 for the final chapters to air.

This isn’t the first time Formby Beach has found itself on screen. Back in March 2017, the sands and dunes were transformed for the filming of Peaky Blinders, with none other than Tom Hardy spotted on the shoreline as part of the gritty BBC drama. With its unique coastal landscape and atmospheric backdrop, Formby has become a favourite filming location for both UK and international productions.
Formby Beach may be causing a stir among residents with the current disruption, but there’s no doubt our coastline is carving out a starring role of its own in global film and television. From Peaky Blinders to Silo, the world is watching Formby.
