Formby Junior Sports Club Inter Club section going from strength to strength

ree

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section which is open to all children regardless of ability is going from strength to strength particularly in the very young age groups.  As a result  two new FJSC Under 6 teams played their first ever competitive matches last Sunday.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 12 White edged out Aintree Athletic 1–0 on Saturday in a closely contested encounter. Formby started strongly, dominating the first half with confident play and deservedly took the lead early on. Huey Stevenson delivered a perfectly judged ball over the top, which Diego Funes-Cerveralatched onto before calmly finishing to put the Whites ahead.

The second half proved to be a scrappy affair, with difficult conditions making free-flowing football hard to come by. Aintree broke up FJSC’s rhythm forcing the hosts to dig deep defensively. Despite the pressure, Formby stood firm. Goalkeeper Lucas Guest pulled off several excellent saves, while Jaiden Crosby and Huey Stevenson impressed with their determination in key moments.  The trio’s outstanding contributions ensured Formby kept their narrow advantage intact until the final whistle. Lucas Guest, Jaiden Crosby and Huey Stevenson were deservedly named joint men of the match as FJSC claimed all three points.

FJSC Under 12 Whites Sunday teamcontinued their outstanding start to the season with a  6 nil victory over 7 Elite Academy Mundial. From the first whistle, FJSCdominated against strong opposition with their relentless pressing and energy preventing the visitors from ever settling into rhythm. The breakthrough came when Zach Cooper’s tireless closing down forced a defensive error, allowing Paddy O’Callaghan to dispossess the goalkeeper and slot home. Moments later, Cooper doubled the lead with a brilliant solo effort, before Clayton Connolly with a superb floated finish into the far corner made it 3–0 at the break.

The second half followed the same pattern, with Formby playing confident, flowing football from the back. Chances came and went for Zach McHugh, Kayden Watters and Huey Stevenson, but it was Diego Funes-Cervera who stole the show in the closing stages. With FJSC pushing hard in the final fifteen minutes, Diego struck a superb hat-trick.  Two of his goals were created by fine assists from Joshua Halpin.  It was an excellent all-round performance that showcased the team’s attacking flair and defensive resilience.

After the first two weekends of the season FJSC Under 12 Whites have gained four wins from four matches played including two clean sheets.

FJSC Under 14 Whites produced a good effort against Crosby Stuart Youth but succumbed to a 4 nil defeat.  The boys were unlucky not to get on the score sheet with strong performances from Dylan Hyslop and Will Rawsthorne.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks won 5-1 against SilcoxVilla on Saturday.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks Sunday team had eight different scorers in their win against MHS Marseille.  Scoring the goals were Ben Harris, Connor Howells, Fabian Reilly, Reuben Burke, Henry Wynne, Will Madutlela, Oskar Wood and Jenson Heron.

FJSC Under13 Blacks entered the game in good spirits after a strong start to the season. Facing a talented and pacey TQ Santos side, FJSC struggled to gain any real control early on, as Santos moved the ball around with confidence and composure. Despite the pressure, FJSC showed grit and determination. Their persistence paid off when Josh Burr curled in a superb free kick—his fourth goal in just two starts—to give Formby a 1–0 lead.

TQ Santos responded quickly. A swift break down the right flank ended with a thunderous strike that rocketed into the top corner, levelling the score. FJSC weren’t fazed. They continued to battle and regained the lead through a composed finish from Finley Scott.

The second half both sides dug deep. With fifteen minutes to go, a dangerous cross from the right slipped through the FJSC defence and found a TQ Santos striker, who made no mistake in slotting home the equaliser. Then came a cruel twist. A counter attack from a FJSC set piece left them exposed, and a one-on-one was calmly finished to put Santos 3–2 ahead with just five minutes remaining. As FJSC pushed for an equaliser, TQ Santos scored two quick-fire goals including a penalty with the final kick of the game which sealed what felt like a harsh 5–2 scoreline that didn’t reflect the effort shown by FJSC. Man of the Match was Alex Barr.

FJSC entered this crucial clash with Southport Trinity Blue on Sunday determined to make a statement, having narrowly lost the title to the same side last season. The Blacks nearly took the lead within the opening minute.  Moments later, Trinity capitalised on a breakaway to go 1–0 up. FJSC’s response was swift and spirited. A well-taken finish from Isaac Jones brought the score level, restoring belief across the team.

Trinity regained the lead with a thunderous free-kick that rocketed into the top corner. With momentum shifting, FJSC made a tactical adjustment, changing formation to try and regain control. The move paid off, and Charlie Richardson coolly slotted home to make it 2–2 just before the break.

The second half saw FJSC take command, limiting Trinity to few chances and dominating possession. Sustained pressure led to a series of corners, and eventually, Finley Scott pounced on a loose ball to fire home and give FJSC a deserved 3–2 lead. Sensing the opportunity to seal the win, the team continued to press. A dazzling run from Alfie Frost ended with a foul in the box, but he bounced back up to take the penalty himself—rifling it into the top corner to make it 4–2. Trinity pushed late on, but FJSC stood firm, showing resilience and composure to close out a well-earned victory. It was a performance full of character especially with going behind twice. Man of the Match was Seb Goatley.

FJSC Under 12 Reds played top of the table Ormskirk West End Blues. The boys started slowly and conceded from a long range effort early on. The Reds mounted a fight back but were unable to trouble the keeper and conceded again just before half time. In the second half Ormskirk’s quality showed and they were relentless in attack scoring another six. There were some good performances despite the defeat for the Reds. Lucas Firth with his non-stop energy before an injury forced him off.  Max Fairhurst for his usual solid defensive game and tackling and Man of the Match Izakk Hill whose energetic running and silky skills provided the Red’s only attacking outlet.

FJSC Under 12 Black’s excellent start to the season on Saturday’s continued with a dominate team performance against 11 Soccer Blue.  Jake Gadsby scored a fine hat trick and there was also one goal each from James Coulton, Michael Wain, Leo Ball, Oliver Hall- Gleeson and Finn McDerby.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks made the perfect start to their season with an impressive team display against Southport Community FC Red. The team’s attacking intent was clear from the first whistle.  Noah Underwood opened the scoring and Alex Rowley lead the line superbly grabbing an incredible five goals. Noah Underwood scored twice including a brilliant header.  Jack Hansen also got on the scoresheet, rounding off an excellent all-round attacking display.

The assists were shared around the team with contributions from Ethan Catleugh, Ashley Jones, Idris Jones, Isaac Melton, Asher Fields, Alex Rowley, Jack Hansen and Adam Tyler-Holland. A special shout out to Olly Stinson and Asher Fields for sharing goalkeeping duties with Max Byford injured. Their shot-stopping plus a fantastic defensive performance from Joseph Kerrigan saw that the team kept a clean sheet too.  Man of the match was debutant Adam Tyler-Holland with a tireless performance.

FJSC Under 11 Golds faced a stern test against a well-organise Southport Trinity Whites team. The opening exchanges were highly competitive, with the Gold teammatching their opponents' intensity, kept the deficit to just a couple of goals in the first twenty minutes. However, as the match progressed, Southport Trinity's took control.

Under relentless pressure, FJSC's goalkeeperLewis McColl delivered an outstanding performance, producing several crucial saves to keep his team in the contest. The defensive unit worked tirelessly, with Jacob Cargill earning Player of the Match honours for an exceptional individual display. Cargill was everywhere on the pitch, throwing himself into tackle after tackle with unwavering commitment and determination that epitomised the fighting spirit of the entire squad.

FJSC Under 10 Whites had a full squad against Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs.   In only the team’s second match playing together it is pleasing to see how well the boys aregetting on together. It was definitely a big improvement from last week’s game with some good passing on show.  The Whites scored twice with goals from Eric Williams and Joseph Elsey.   Joshua Gillespie provided fantastic assists for both goals. Teddy Millsonce again made some great saves. Man of theMatch was Oliver Parrish for his hard work and constant battles in defence. The new management team are very proud of the boys.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks fell to Burscough Dynamo Yellow after a stirring fightback. A slow start left FJSC under heavy pressure, and Burscough’s sharper reactions and extra experience told as they surged into a substantial lead either side of half-time.

Refusing to fold, FJSC reset and went on the front foot. Quicker transitions, braver pressing and better use of the wide areas turned the tide.  Three unanswered goals scored by Theo Richards and Eoin Follett pulled it back to being just one goal down and had Burscough rattled. With momentum building, a late break saw Burscough convert a penalty, which effectively settled the contest.

On another day, with the same effort and a quicker start, the result could have been different. The two teams were closely matched overall.

FJSC Under 9 Whites played at home against Southport Hesketh and produced a very good first half performance.  Archie Jones scored a hat trick and there was also one goal each for Lucas Byrne and Luke Clarke.  Southport Hesketh came back well and scored twice in the second half.  Joint Men of the Match were Luke Clarke and Lucas Byrne.

FJSC Under 8 Whites went toe-to-toe with a good Crosby Stuart Youth team and held theopponents for a long period which says a lot about how well the Whites played. The final score didn’t really do us justice, but there were loads of positives to take away.

Deserving special mention were Sammy Porter, Tom Babun, Anders Carter and Izzy Radcliffe.  Sammy scored a great hat trick and was unstoppable at times.  Tom scored his first goal of the season.  Anders took his chance to score with clever thinking.  Izzy produced three assists and made some great tackles. The team gave everything from start to finish and everyone played with a smile.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played well against Southport FC Community Yellows with goals scored by Tayo Popoola, Ollie Jones, Cole Jones and Harry Brown.  Man of the Match was defender Dylan Wood.

FJSC Under 7 White played against a well organised and skilful Redgate Rovers. After conceding early goals the team pulled together with some excellent hard work from Teddy Gillingham who was persistent in winning the ball back. William Laughly tried his best in defence but Redgate passed well to find opportunities to score. Before the end of the first half McEddy Osei Assibey scored from apenalty. Redgate added to their tally in the second half before McEddy Osei Assibeyscored his second goal of the match and came close to scoring a third. The match was played in good spirit and FJSC Whites will learn a lot from the game.

FJSC Whites had a thoroughly entertainingmatch against Crosby Stuart Youth. Both sides played competitively throughout the game. It was an impressive goal scoring outingfor Joshua Kefford with seven goals.  Also scoring were Leo Clarke, Ezekiel Fitzgibbon and Arthur Pollard.   Playing well were Roman Crowney, Adam Jadid-Leech and James Curran.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks played Akidemy Black.  It was another very good match.  Rory Dunn made some great saves in goal.  Gene Dugdale and Rueben Pearson scored one goal each with solo flair.  Akidemy added goals late on with some excellent long range shooting. FJSC UNDER 14 BLACKS PLAY TOURING TEAM FROM CHILE

FJSC Under 14’s had a friendly match to remember.  The Under 14’s Blacks enjoyed playing St Gabriel’s School Under 15’s  from Santiago, Chile at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club in midweek.  St Gabriel’s had a squad of fourteen boys so it was agreed to play two seven aside matches.  FJSC were presented with a beautiful plaque and pennant to commemorate the match.  The Under 14’s narrowly lost the matches.  It is not every day you get to play a South American team!
