A brand new food ordering app dedicated to Formby is getting ready to launch, promising lower costs for local businesses, exclusive deals for customers and a new way of keeping more money within the local community.
Formby Eats is due to go live this September and the countdown is now well and truly on, with a growing number of popular Formby restaurants and takeaways already confirmed for the new platform.
Among the businesses announced so far are Redgate Indian, Little Italy and Suay Pan Asian Restaurant, with further names expected to be revealed as the launch gets closer.
The new service is being brought to Formby by the team behind Southport Eats, which has been operating in Southport for six years.
Rather than trying to compete simply as another national style delivery app, the team says Formby Eats has been created specifically around local businesses and local customers.
The idea is simple. Restaurants and takeaways are charged fairer commission rates, allowing them to retain more of the money from each order. The hope is that those savings can also help businesses provide better prices, discounts and exclusive offers to customers using the app.
For people ordering food in Formby, the new app is promising exclusive offers and promotions, competitions and giveaways, lower delivery fees than many national platforms and access to some businesses which may not be available through other delivery apps.
The team behind the venture also says it intends to reinvest a significant proportion of profits into local marketing and support within the Formby community.
That could include backing local charities, grassroots sports clubs, schools, community groups and other local initiatives.
For independent food businesses, Formby Eats says there will be no expensive upfront setup fees, alongside local marketing, ordering technology and UK based customer support.
The arrival of the app could provide an interesting alternative for Formby’s independent food businesses, many of which have become increasingly reliant on the major national ordering and delivery platforms.
Formby Eats says its aim is to create something different, with a platform where ordering a takeaway can also mean supporting the businesses operating within the local community.
And preparations appear to be gathering pace.
Little Italy has already joined the platform, with Formby Eats running a giveaway to celebrate its arrival, while Redgate Indian has also been confirmed as a launch partner.
Suay Pan Asian Restaurant is another Formby favourite which will be available for delivery through the new app.
More restaurants, cafés, takeaways, dessert businesses and other food and drink operators are now being encouraged to join ahead of the launch.
The team is also asking Formby residents which of their favourite local businesses they would like to see added to the app.
An exact launch date is expected to be announced shortly, but Formby Eats has confirmed that the service will be going live during September.
With more businesses being announced, launch competitions planned and free food giveaways promised, there could be plenty to watch out for over the next few weeks.
