Formby Co-op evacuated and closed after suspected gas leak sparks emergency response

Emergency services were called to the Co-op on Queens Road, Formby, at approximately 8:30pm on Tuesday 23rd June following reports of a suspected gas leak.

The incident resulted in the immediate evacuation of customers and staff, with the store closing while the situation was assessed.

Three fire engines arrived at the scene on blue lights, and a specialist engineer from Cadent Gas was also dispatched to investigate.

In situations involving a suspected gas leak, strict safety procedures are followed. Store staff are required to evacuate the premises immediately, contact the Fire and Rescue Service, and notify the National Gas Emergency Service so that qualified gas engineers can attend and assess any potential risk.

The cause of the gas scare has not yet been confirmed, and there are no reports of any injuries.
