Sorrento Italian Restaurant

Formby Bubble is proud to shine a spotlight on this fantastic local Gem that is Sorrento.

This week, Sorrento Italian Restaurant received the most nominations for our Formby Bubble Business of the Week – and it’s no surprise why. Situated in the heart of Formby village, Sorrento is a much-loved family-run restaurant that brings a true taste of Italy to our local community.

Luciano, originally from Sorrento in southern Italy, moved to England in 1987 with his wife Jayne. He began his journey working as a waiter in Liverpool before moving to Southport, where he also trained as a chef. In 1998, they opened their first Sorrento restaurant in Orrell, which continues to thrive – with some of their dedicated team members still working there over 13 years later.

Building on that success, the Formby branch opened in September 2009 and quickly became a local favourite. Today, it’s proudly run by Luciano and his daughter Anna, supported by a loyal and hardworking team who are truly part of the Sorrento family.

Sorrento offers an authentic Italian experience – whether you’re celebrating with family, enjoying a romantic dinner, or simply stopping by for a taste of Italy. The friendly staff each have their own Italian story to share, making every visit unique and memorable.

The restaurant also boasts a beautiful Mediterranean-style outdoor space, perfect for enjoying an al fresco Aperol Spritz and antipasto in the sunshine.

With freshly prepared dishes, excellent service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, it’s easy to see why Sorrento is so loved by the Formby community.
