Formby Bridge and Kirklake Road to close on two days for surface dressing works

Motorists and bus passengers are being warned of two daytime road closures affecting Formby Bridge and Kirklake Road this month as Sefton Council carries out planned highway maintenance.
Kirklake Road and Formby Bridge, between Freshfield Road and St Luke’s Church Road, will be closed on Tuesday 11 August and Tuesday 18 August 2026, between 9.30am and 3.30pm on both days.
The closures are connected to surface dressing works being carried out by Sefton Council as part of its highway repair and maintenance programme.
The wider permit for the works runs from 5 August until 28 August, with the affected section listed as Kirklake Road from Freshfield Road to St Luke’s Road. The works reference is LA00900093241.
Surface dressing is a road maintenance treatment designed to improve the condition and grip of the carriageway and help protect the existing road surface.
Four bus services will be diverted
The closure will affect services 44, F3, F4 and F5, with Liverpool City Region Travel issuing the following diversions.

Service 44
From Formby and Duke Street, buses will operate normally to Duke Street before diverting via Kings Road and Raven Meols Lane and then returning to the normal route towards Crossens.
The service will omit Formby Bridge, Ward Avenue, Queens Road and part of Raven Meols Lane.
Alternative stops are available on Duke Street near Formby Station and Raven Meols Lane near Kings Road.
Service F3
From Formby Village, buses will operate normally to Duke Street before diverting via Kings Road, Raven Meols Lane, Queens Road and Jubilee Road, before returning to the normal route.
The service will omit Formby Bridge, Kirklake Road, St Luke’s Church Road and Bushbys Lane.
Alternative stops are available at Duke Street by Formby Station and Queens Road near Sefton Road.
Service F4
From Formby Village, buses will operate normally to Duke Street before diverting via Freshfield Road and Victoria Road and then returning to the normal route.
The service will omit Formby Bridge, Kirklake Road, Woodlands Road, Harington Road and part of Victoria Road.
Alternative stops are available at Duke Street by Formby Station and Gores Lane near Timms Lane.
Service F5
From Formby Village, buses will operate normally to Victoria Road before diverting via Freshfield Road and Duke Street and then returning to the normal route.
The service will omit part of Victoria Road, Harington Road, Woodlands Road, Kirklake Road and Formby Bridge.
Alternative stops are available on Gores Lane near Grange Lane and Duke Street near Formby Station.
