⚠️ Formby beach warning as huge midday Spring Tides set to wipe out the shoreline this weekend
- 3 days ago
- 1 min read

Visitors planning a trip to Formby beach this weekend are being advised to take extra care, as very high spring tides exceeding 9 metres are expected during the middle of the day.
These tides will significantly reduce the amount of accessible beach, with very little shoreline available for around an hour either side of high tide.

Tide Times
Saturday 21 March – High tide at 12:18pm (9.43m)
Sunday 22 March – High tide at 12:57pm (9.29m)
Monday 23 March – High tide at 1:40pm (8.95m)
Visitors are strongly encouraged to check tide times before travelling and plan their visit accordingly.
Protecting Wildlife
This is also an important time for migrating shoreline birds. Please help protect them by:
Avoiding walking towards or through flocks
Keeping dogs under control and away from birds
Giving wildlife space to rest and conserve energy
Important Safety Rule
Under the Sefton Coast Public Space Protection Order, horses must not be ridden on the beach within two hours either side of high tide.
Access Information
Victoria Road car park remains closed until spring 2026 for conservation works
There is no pedestrian access through the work site
The reopening date for the squirrel reserve has not yet been confirmed
✅ Alternative Access
Lifeboat Road (National Trust) is open
Toilets are available on site
A boardwalk provides safe access to the beach
Please take care if visiting over the weekend and always be aware of the fast-moving tide conditions along our coastline.
