A Flood Alert is now in place for the River Alt from Formby to Huyton, with residents being warned that flooding is possible this evening and overnight.
The Environment Agency updated the alert at 5.21pm today, Thursday 3rd September, following forecasts of heavy and persistent rain.
High river levels are expected overnight and could lead to flooding, particularly across low lying land and roads close to rivers and watercourses.

The alert covers the River Alt catchment from Formby through to Huyton, including areas around Great Altcar, Ince Blundell, Hightown and surrounding communities.
Heavy rain is forecast to continue throughout this evening and into the early hours, which could cause river levels to rise further.
The Environment Agency says it is closely monitoring the situation and is advising people to take extra care.
Residents should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Roads in low lying areas and those close to the River Alt and surrounding watercourses may be particularly vulnerable.
A Flood Alert means that flooding is possible and people living or travelling through affected areas should be prepared and remain vigilant.

The Environment Agency says the alert will be updated by 10am tomorrow, Friday 4th September, or sooner if the situation changes.
We will keep you updated with any further information affecting Formby.
