FJSC had a winning weekend with U13s crowned Champions and Under 8’s became Champions League Winners

It was the perfect weekend for the Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 13 Sunday team to be crowned the Craven Minor League Under 13’s League Champions!

There was also good news to report from the FJSC Under 8 Whites squad. In a thrilling Southport FC Tournament, the Under 8 Whites capped a brilliant season by becoming the Southport FC Champions League Trophy Winners!

To complete a hat trick of achievements the Formby Junior Sports Club membership has reached over two hundred and fifty footballers between the ages of four and thirteen years of age!

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 13’s Blacks Sunday team went into the penultimate Craven Minor League match of the season knowing that a victory over Southport Athletic Reds would ensure that the team would be League Champions.  It took just twenty minutes before the Under 13’s took the lead and it was very fitting that the goal was scored by Archie Ogden with his fiftieth goal of the season.   Archie then scored again three minutes later to double the lead.  It became 3 nil just before half time when Luca Massey scored from the penalty spot.

Now playing with confidence and knowing that ‘one hand was on the trophy ‘three further goals were scored in the second half without reply.  Charlie Garvey added a fourth goal with a beautifully struck shot.  Archie Ogden then scored two more goals with the help of assists from the tirelessly working Dominic Maxwell to make the final score 6 nil to FJSC.  The man of the match award went to BeratUlusoy who ran from start to finish.

Congratulations to all the squad members of the FJSC Under 13 Blacks on a fantastic season so far and also to Team Manager Gary Garvey and Assistant Manager Paul Jones for all their efforts throughout the year.  The season is still not finished as the boys have a Craven Minor League Cup Final to look forward to later in the month when FJSC play Greenloons Greens in what should be a very exciting final.

FJSC Under 8 Whites rounded off an incredible season by winning the prestigious Southport FC Champions League Trophy. In a tough group stage, FJSC Whites were held to 0-0 in the first game with goalkeeper Max Byford pulling off a wonder save in the last minute to keep the score level. The Whites found themselves a goal down in the secondgame but snatched a draw with Seb Hodgson’s last kick of the game to equalise. FJSC neededa win in the final group match. The team stepped up their performance level and gaineda very impressive 3 nil win with Seb Hodgson once again leading the way with a classy hat-trick to take his team into the knockout stages.

Once the FJSC Whites entered the knockout stages the team hit top form against Crosby Stuart and Southport FC in the quarter and semi- finals respectively gaining two 3 nil wins. This set up a final against rivals Southport & Ainsdale FC.  An early goal was crucial and FJSC got off to a flyer with Jack Haggart banging in a screamer from distance that gave the keeper no chance.   it was an end to end encounter from then on.  The Whites sniffed out danger and looked threatening with every attack.   Eventually FJSC deservedly scored the all-important second goal with Jack Haggart’s drive into the corner of the net putting the trophy within reach. With the final whistle came scenes of celebration as the boys were crowned champions.  See the photograph above of the FJSC Under 8 Whites squad with the trophy.

Well done to every squad member and congratulations as well goes to Team Manager Thomas Williamson.

FJSC Under 10’s also entered the competition and in their age group the team won 1, drew 1 and lost one match and qualified in second place in the group. Unfortunately the Under 10’s lost on penalties in the quarter finals to the eventual winners Southport Athletic.

This concluded the season for FJSC Under 10 Whites who had the distinction of being undefeated in league matches during the second half of the season.  Well done to all the boys and Team Manager Colin Crutchley.

A number of other FJSC Representative teams also took part in the Southport FC Tournament and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing at Haig Venue on the Southport FC pitch.
