Congratulations to Formby High School Class of 2023 on their GCSE results today

Year 11 students have collected their GCSE results, fuelling much excitement and celebration.

Their results are excellent and a fair reflection of the commitment they have shown to their studies. In particular, the proportion of students achieving the high grades was very impressive with a whopping 23 students attaining at least eight GCSE grades 7 or above. One student was awarded grade 9s in all 10 GCSE subjects whilst 11 students achieved grade 9s in at least five subjects. Overall, the results were very strong and a cause for much celebration amongst students, their family and teachers.

Success extends beyond students’ performance in GCSE subjects. In recent years, the school has introduced several new vocational courses to improve students’ employability in growth sectors in the local economy. In Engineering and Catering & Hospitality our students have achieved exceptionally well, securing 29 Distinction*/Distinction grades across the two subjects, and many of them have chosen to continue pursuing their interest in these areas as they progress to post-16 study.

In GCSEs and vocational courses students have performed very well and should be proud of what they have achieved. Many will be returning to Formby High School’s sixth form and we look forward to them returning in September. For those who are venturing on to pastures new, they leave with our very best wishes and thanks for all they have contributed to the life of the school.

Today was also a proud day for one of our Year 9 students who came to collect his GCSE Spanish result, having taken the examination early as one of our polyglots. His smile lit up the room as he opened his envelope to see he had secured the top grade!

Mr David Pearson, Chair of Governors, said:

“On behalf of my fellow Governors, well done to all our students receiving their grades today. We are delighted and proud of every one of them for their resilience and hard work. We are very pleased that many of them will be joining FHS Sixth Form and we look forward to celebrating their continuing success over the next two years.“

”To those who are leaving us to pursue other opportunities, we wish them every success and happiness in the future. We would also like to thank all the staff at the school for their tireless support of these students in the classroom and beyond.”

Mr Mackenzie, Headteacher, commented:

“In a year of much uncertainty in terms of exam results and following the turbulence of the last few years, this group of students should be proud of all they have achieved. I certainly am and I know their teachers are too. The grades they have earned are a fair reflection of their commitment, enthusiasm to learn and determination to succeed. Not only are they able and well-motivated, they are all good people who deserve today’s success and all the success that the future will bring. Well done!”
