Congratulations to FJSC U’11 Blacks on reaching Cup Final for second year in succession

Congratulations to Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 11 Blacks who played brilliantly in their semi-final at the weekend and have reached the Cup Final for the second year in succession.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks booked their place in the Harry Cope Memorial Cup Final with a commanding 5–1 victory over a spirited Southport Town side in an entertaining semi-final at Deansgate Lane.

Formby struck first when Alex Rowley, opened the scoring, calmly finishing after being picked out by Adam Tyler-Holland. Southport responded well and showed plenty of character, pulling the game back to 1–1 before half time. The opening half was a hard-fought contest, with both sides battling for every ball. The Blacks created several chances that went begging, but there was a growing sense that their persistence would eventually be rewarded.

The second half told a different story. FJSCemerged with real intent and began to show their quality, raising the tempo and asserting control. Ashley Jones restored the lead, finishing confidently after another clever assist from Adam Tyler-Holland.

Momentum was firmly with FJSC and the third goal soon followed. Ethan Catleugh found the net, once again set up by the influential Adam Tyler-Holland, who was pulling the strings throughout. Southport continued to battle and never let their heads drop, but the pressure kept coming.  Alex Rowley then struck again, this time capitalising on a well-worked assist from Ashley Jones to put daylight between the sides. Any lingering doubt was removed when Alex Rowley completed the scoring with Formby’s fifth, inevitably supplied by Adam Tyler-Holland after his shot hit the inside of the post.

Captain for the day Isaac Melton led by example as he guided the team into a  Cup Final for the second consecutive year. Joseph Kerrigan was deservedly named Man of the Match for his excellent defensive reading of the game, consistently keeping Southport at arm’s length and providing calm authority at the back.

This victory also maintains FJSC Under 11 Blacks 100% record across all competitions this season, a remarkable achievement. Joint managers Colin Byford and Paul Hansen were full of praise for the team’s performance.  See the team photograph above.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks won 3-1 against Skelmersdale Youth in a group stage match of the West Lancs League Cup.

All the boys battled from start to finish and played some good attacking football when they had the chance. The defence was very strong against some tricky forwards.  The midfield battled hard all game and provided a great shield while also showing lots of quality and creating several chances. The forwards all defended from the front, tracked back and looked dangerous in front of goal. FJSC opened the scoring after a period of sustained pressure when Yaroslav Voznianko produced a lovely finish after being set up by Charlie Knowles with a slide pass from the right. Ollie Dean scored a header from an Ethan Richmond corner and Maison Lambert grabbed his second in two games after returning from injury with a calm finish getting on the end of an Evan Hughes's cross.

FJSC Under 14 Whites played Formby Wanderers in the Craven Minor League.  The Whites played very well in the first half and led 3 nil at half time.  Wanderers fought back well in the second half and scored.  FJSC held onto their two goal lead and won 3-1.  It was a very good match played in very blustery conditions.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team faced top of the table TQ Sport knowing this would be a tough game. The boys played their best football for a couple of months which unfortunately did not reflect in the result.

Pushing TQ hard in the first half Isaac Jones scored to give FJSC a deserved lead. However just before half time TQ Santos equalised witha well worked goal. The team had played well and early into the second half Seb Goatleyscored to restore FJSC’s lead. Alfie Forsyth and Isaac Jones then both hit the cross bar.  With ten minutes remaining TQ equalised via a top corner shot. At 2-2 TQ then won a corner and scored to make it 3-2. FJSC threw everything into attack and nearly equalised but for a brilliant save by the TQ keeper.   TQ scored a breakaway goal with the last kick of the game to win 4-2.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks went into their Sunday match game against Crosby Stuart after a good performance the day before against TQ Sport knowing that if they kept the same principles then the result would be different.

FJSC started the game brightly and soon took the lead with a good goal from Alfie Forsyth. FJSC kept pushing in the first half on a difficult pitch and before half time Charlie Richardson doubled FJSC’s lead. Quicker passing in the second half allowed FJSC to apply greater pressure in the final third which was rewarded with a hat trick from Isaac Jones and then a fully committed goal from Oscar Buch-Platt. FJSC finish the game 6 nil winners. It was a good, solid teamperformance.

FJSC Under 13 Whites travelled to Southport Hesketh for the second time in three weeks. On a difficult pitch the boys started well but fell behind to a penalty after fifteen minutes, before conceding two more quickly. ArchieMarron pulled one goal back before half time with a neat finish and Formby finished the half well. Unfortunately a number of uncharacteristic defensive errors led to some further Southport goals in the second half and Southport Hesketh ran out comfortable 5-1winners.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks Saturday team won 4 nil against 11 Soccer Blue making it five victories on the run.  Tom Murphy opened the scoring in the first half courtesy of an assist from Jasper House.  Oliver Hall – Gleeson provided James Coulton with the chance to make it 2 nil and before the interval Joseph Kenyon added a third goal.

In the second half Jacob Gadsby increased FJSC’s lead helped by Man of the Match Oliver Hall-Gleeson who provided his second assist of the match.  The excellent 4-0 win takes FJSC Under 11 Blacks into second place in the Championship Division.  Next Saturday the team play league leaders Forefield Whites.

On Sunday FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Flamengo in the West Lancs League.  It was a goalless first half.  The second half was also closely contested but Flamengo managed to score twice to win 2nil. Will Sadler was FJSC’s Man of the Match.

FJSC Under 12 Whites Saturday team defeated JN Sport 3-0 to move into second position in the Hightown Premier Division.

FJSC Under 12 Whites narrowly lost 1 nil to Muniflex on Sunday.

FJSC Under 12 Reds lost 4-1 to Formby Wanderers

FJSC Under 11 Gold team showed plenty of promise in their encounter with Southport and Ainsdale.  There was some encouraging teamwork, determination, and flashes of attacking quality throughout the match. The scoring was opened in style when FreddieHumphreys delivered a brilliant assist, setting up Ahmad Abdulafeez to finish confidently and give FJSC Gold the lead. There were plenty of goals scored by both teams. CharlieHerbert then added FJSC’s second goal with a composed left footed strike, before AhmadAbdulafeez scored again to complete his brace. Peter McCormick wrapped up the scoring for the Gold team in the second half following sustained attacking pressure.

Other players also had moments to shine.  Gabriel Doran went close with a well-struck effort that narrowly missed the target, demonstrating his growing confidence in front of goal. In goal, Leo McBurney and LewisMcColl shared duties and produced several committed saves, keeping the team in the game and showing real bravery under pressure.

A special mention also to Alby Hartley, making his debut and immediately contributing energy and focus to the squad. Despite a tough fixture against strong opposition, there were plenty of positives: improved link-up play, greater confidence in possession, and strong character throughout the match. Plenty for the Golds to build on in the coming weeks. Player of the Match was Freddie Humphreys.  This was a much better team display and having substitutes to go on when tiredness builds up in the second half made a big difference.  There are signs of much improvement.  Well done.

FJSC Under 10 Whites were in action against Southport Trinity Yellows. The Whites got off to a good start with some great shots on target but the Trinity keeper was on top form making a number of very good saves.  Southport scored three times before half time.

FJSC’s goalkeeper Teddy Mills  made some superb saves and is gaining more confidence each week. Southport Trinity eventually took their chances and  scored three second halfgoals.  The Whites passing was much better.  Many chances were created by the Whites but they just couldn’t score on the day.

It was derby day for two of FJSC’s Under 9 teams - the Blacks and the Reds. The match was very even with FJSC Reds putting pressure on FJSC Blacks in the early stages. It immediately showed the vast improvement FJSC Reds have made since the two teams last played each other. Just before half time a well taken short corner from the Black’s Teddy Ball found Sam O’Brien who broke the deadlock with a goal.

At the start of the second half FJSC Blackswent on the attack and doubled the lead when Sam O’Brien scored his second goal of the match.  The Reds defended well but the Blacks were determined to keep up the pressure. Teddy Ball’s well placed pass found Charlie Barnes who slotted it home for the Blacks third goal.

It was a good all round team effort by FJSC Blacks with the defence having to play their best to keep a clean sheet against an ever improving FJSC Reds team in only their first season.  FJSC Blacks defenders Oscar Craven and James Taylor were FJSC Blacks joint Players of the Match.

FJSC Under 9 Whites produced a great team performance against Southport Heskethscoring three times in each half.  Archie Jones scored a hat trick whilst the midfielders chipped in with goals from Luke Clarke and Henry Ade.  There were two Man of the Match displays from Rex Byrne and Thomas North in defence who helped keep  a clean sheet .  Rex Byrne also scored a penalty.  The Whites have won three out of three matches in the new North Division.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Sunday team delivered a dominant display against Southport and Ainsdale Blacks. The goals came thick and fast. Jack Kefford bagged a brace.  JimmyDuckworth added a well-taken strike and Sammy Porter was also a scorer.

From the first whistle the midfield and defence were rock solid. James Witterick and Anders Carter were immense at the back, shutting down every attack with composure and strength.

Up front, the attacking flair was relentless. Jack Kefford and Sammy Porter scored with clinical finishes. Jimmy Duckworth’s goal was a beauty, and he was unlucky not to grab a second. Izzy Radcliffe was all-action, hitting the post. Tom Babun dazzled with silky skills and dribbling flair and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

There was no single Player of the Match as there were too many outstanding performances. It was a true team effort from start to finish.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks took part in the cup competition.  The boys played six short matches. All the games were very exciting and included a win, three draws and two narrow defeats.  The team was unlucky not to have reached the final stages.  It was a very good effort from all the boys from start to finish.

FJSC Under 7 White had a great match with Southport Community FC.   The Whitesstarted a little slowly leaving space for Southport who secured an early lead. McEddy Osei Assibey did well to break through and equalise. FJSC then went on the back foot allowing Southport to get a valuable four goal lead despite Kayden Dowdell hitting the post.

FJSC were much better in the second half and were very unlucky not to score three more goals hitting the post and then being thwarted by a number of fine saves from the Southport keeper. Both Arthur Weir and Ezra Connor worked hard on their debuts. William Laugleydid some great defensive work keeping Southport contained. FJSC rallied late on with McEddy Osei Assibey scoring a second and Shayan Palin adding another with great skill and footwork. Southport scored again but Formby kept working hard and a great pass led to a well taken goal from Toby Woodcock to end the game.

FJSC’s three Under 6 teams played matches in the Sefton and Knowsley Development League at Goals in Netherton on Sunday.
