Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section had its best attendance of the season last Saturday. On the Representative team front FJSC Under 14 Blacks and Under 12 Blacks Saturday teams stay top of their respective divisions.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team played FCN Yellow in the Hightown Junior League Cup and gained a very good 7 nil win to maintain a five point lead at the top of the table with three games to play. The entire squad was available for this important match.
Man of the Match was Will Madutlela who was outstanding in the centre of midfield and capped his performance with a fine hat trick. Seb Burdett- Clarke scored a brace and there was also a goal each for Zak Healey and Ben Harris. The team managed the game well and kept a clean sheet.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks were in action again on Sunday in the West Lancs League. Their opponents Liver scored first but the Blacks settled into the match and were leading 2-1 at half time thanks to one goal each from Connor Howells and Ben Harris.
Liver came back strongly after the interval and two quick goals saw them restore the lead at 3-2. In a very exciting last quarter of the match Connor Howells equalised to make it 3-3 and with ten minutes to go Zak Healey gave FJSC the lead. Liver went on to the attack in search of a goal but the whole FJSC squad showed great resilience to hold on to their slender lead to win 4-3.
FJSC Under 14 Whites won 3-1 against Crosby Stuart Youth.
FJSC Under 12 Black Saturday team drew 2-2 with Netherton Athletic to hold on to top spot in the Championship Division by one point.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks had an early kick off against Southport Trinity White. The match was closely contested and FJSC, playing an experimental formation could not get their usual control of the football. Despite creating chances and hitting the post it was Trinity who had the better of the first half and would have taken the lead but for a string of outstanding saves by Max Byford including several 1v1s.
The second half saw a change of formation and a much calmer touch of the ball. This paid off immediately when Idris Jones intercepted the ball, took on his opposite player and picked out a great through ball from his own half. Alex Rowley out muscled his defender before sliding the ball home. Some excellent defending by Joseph Kerrigan, some further saves from Max Byford kept the game at 1-0.
The final quarter of the game saw players moved around and some excellent work by Asher Fields and Isaac Melton nearly lead to a second goal. Man of the Match was Max Byford who continued his excellent recent form with a dominant goalkeeping performance.
FJSC Under 10 Whites started really well in their match against Southport Community FC Yellow. It was end to end throughout the first half and just when it looked like a goalless first half FJSC were awarded a penalty. Elliott Dyment was elected to take the spot kick and confidently scored to give the Whites a 1 nil lead at the interval.
Both teams kept up their attacking play in the second half but it was Southport who took their chances well and scored four times despite a very good Man of the Match display by goalkeeper Joseph Elsey who made some outstanding saves.
It was nice to welcome back Luke Batcheler who played very well on his return. The team’s passing was much improved and there were some very good crosses which were well defended by Southport. FJSC Whites team performances are continuing to improve.
With the end of season fast approaching FJSCUnder 9 Blacks were away to Southport Athletic. The home team started well and scored an early goal. It took FJSC a little while to get into the game but just before the half Ted Middleton found the equaliser.
FJSC now playing with confidence went ahead when Sam O’Brien found the back of the net. Undeterred Southport Athletic countered and soon drew level. It was a game that ebbed and flowed with plenty of pressing from both sides. Theo Dunn got his name on the scoresheet with a goalmouth scrabble butyet again Southport countered and the lead was short lived.
FJSC regrouped and a well taken kick in from Charlie Barnes found William Kenny who slotted the ball neatly home. The Blacks were on the charge with some lovely passing throughout the team. From one such series of passes Ted Middleton who was alone up front added to his tally. In the final minutes of the game Ted Middleton was eager to completehis hat trick which he did through his constant pressing.
It was a good all-round team display with Harley Rea in goal making many fine saves. Oscar Craven and Zach Oliver Watts kept the defence strong and with Isaac Murphy in control of the midfield and James Taylor livelyon the wing all helped to secure the win. The Man of the Match award was shared by Ted Middleton and Sam O’Brien.
FJSC Under 9 Reds continued their league fixtures against Marina Sands on Sunday. The Reds started the game slowly and found it difficult to compete with their high flying opponents. The constant flow of attacks was punctuated by a fifty yard run by Ed Makinsonwhich was bravely stopped by the Marina goalkeeper.
The half time team talk reminded the Reds of how far they had come during the season. The response was immediate with the Reds peppering the Marina goal throughout the second half. Ray Burkett, Ed Makinson and Isaac Kamel all brought out good saves from the Marina goalkeeper. Towards the end of the game Lucas Kelly bulldozed his way through the Marina Sands defence and shot in to the roof of the net. It was a fine second half performance by the Reds in their final home league game of the season. Man of the Match was Lucas Kelly.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played 360 Coaching Inter. FJSC got into the game early. Kayden Dowdall was looking dangerous and was rewarded with two goals and was unlucky not to get a third with a shot hitting the cross bar. The first half did however see a hat trick for McEddy Osei Assibey. The pick of those goals saw the ball flying into the top corner following a dribble in.
FJSC were on top again in the second half with Albie York scoring from close range. The 360 team made the most of limited chances and an excellent strike gave the FJSCgoalkeeper little chance scoring right in the top corner. Despite not getting on the score sheet Shayan Palin showed great skill setting up a goal for Teddy Gillingham. With his move onto the wing William Laugley bagged two great goals driving in from the wing. There was also a goal from Toby Woodcock who took the initiative from a quick dribble in to beat the 360 keeper on his near post. It was a pleasing team performance.
FJSC Under 6 teams enjoyed their 3 aside matches in the Sefton and Knowsley Development League on Sunday.
