73 year old man allegedly assaulted and injured with a key following minor traffic incident in Formby

Police have contacted the family of a 73 year old man following reports that he was assaulted during an altercation on Elbow Lane in Formby on Monday morning, 26 October.
The incident was brought to the attention of Formby Bubble after the man’s daughter contacted the page to share what had happened to her father.
According to his daughter, the incident began when her father accidentally clipped another man’s vehicle wing mirror while travelling along Elbow Lane.
She alleges that the other man, believed to be of a similar age to her father, responded by punching him and using a key to cause an injury across his neck.
Police attended the scene following the incident.
However, the man’s daughter explained that her father was in shock at the time and initially told officers that he was okay and did not wish to take the matter any further.
After having time to reflect on what had happened, he subsequently contacted police again.
His daughter originally appealed through Formby Bubble for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Police Contact Family Following Formby Bubble Appeal
The family have since confirmed that police contacted the 73 year old man after seeing the appeal published on Formby Bubble earlier today.
They have also confirmed that witnesses have now been identified, meaning the original appeal for witnesses is no longer necessary.
The man’s daughter expressed her disbelief at what had happened, stressing that although her father had accidentally clipped the other vehicle’s wing mirror, nothing could justify the alleged violence that followed.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been independently confirmed by Merseyside Police.
Formby Bubble hopes the gentleman is recovering well following what must have been a very distressing experience.
