Merseyrail have confirmed that a person has been struck by a train on the Northern Line. The incident happened between Freshfield and Ainsdale.

UPDATE at 08:30hrs:

Services have resumed. Passengers travelling on the Southport line, services have now resumed. Service from Southport departed at 08:28hrs.

Services are subject to delays and short notice cancellations.

ORIGINAL: A spokesman said just after 6.30am: "Due to a person being struck by a train between Freshfield and Ainsdale stations, services on the Southport and Hunts Cross lines are expected to meet with delay and cancellation." Services on the Southport line are suspended. Southport line will start and terminate at Hall Road. The following services have been cancelled: 0721 Hunts Cross - Southport. 0736 Hunts Cross - Southport. 0751 Hunts Cross - Southport. Buses have been requested, more information will be announced once available. There is no word on the person's injuries at this stage.
