RAF Centenary event in Southport Botanic Gardens on Sunday the 8th of April
An event in Southport to commemorate the centenary of the Royal Air Force (Formby Branch) have organised an event to commemorate the centenary of the Royal Air Force in the Southport Botanical Gardens at 11 am on Sunday the 8th of April 2018.
The Royal Air Force Association (Formby Branch) have sponsored a Royal Air Force Roundel in flowers in the large circular flower bed, just inside the entrance to the Botanic Gardens (see attached Photo) with an aluminium silhouette of a spitfire (see attached Photo) in the centre of the roundel.
The Mayor of Sefton Councillor Dave Robinson will unveil a permanent plaque commemorating the event.
The Station Commander of Royal Airforce Woodvale, Wing Commander Dave Hooton will give a brief talk about Royal Air Force Woodvale and the local community.
The member of parliament for Southport Damian Moore MP will give a brief talk on the Armed Services and Veterans as seen from a member of the House of Commons Defence Committee.
Amongst those attending will be two squadrons of Air Training Corps (281 Squadron (Southport) and 611 Squadron (Woodvale)), Lord and Lady Fearn, Bill Easterton MP (Sefton Central), Squadron Leader Lee Rimmer (Executive Officer 611 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force) and volunteers from various local Military Charities.
Members of the public are welcome to join especially veterans.
