Formby man takes on the Monte Carlo or Bust challenges
Monte Carlo or Bust
A local businessman has been raising funds for Queenscourt Hospice by driving in not one, but two, charity banger rallies across Europe.
Formby resident, Mike Wood, bought an old London Taxi cab for £500 with a mere 343,000 miles on the clock to take on the "Monte Carlo or Bust" challenges.
The first rally was from Namur in Belgium, passing through six countries and over the St Gotthard Pass, and finally arriving in Casino Square in Monaco three days and 850 miles
later. Thirty eight teams started out from Namur, raising nearly £50,000 for various good causes.
Next week, team "Ragamuffin Racers", will cross the start line in Saint Quentin, north of Paris, and end in Monte Carlo on Sunday afternoon.
The fund raising target will be the combined total showing on the taxi meter at the end of the two rallies. The first rally racked up £1,010, and the second is likely to be similar.
